Well I've pulled the trigger on a pair of AKG K702's from Amazon. I know Jerry has just purchased a set of Shure's so would be interested to hear his thoughts regarding the two.

I hate the sound of AKGs with a passion.   I'd rather dip my dangly bits in strong acid than listen to AKG cans.  Lots of folks love them, though, so you should be OK. I sold my recent pair [bright green AKG Q701] to Alan firebottle, and he is very pleased, mostly perhaps because they match his trousers.  I'm very much liking the Shure 1840 with some eq applied. |

I did read you were liking your 1840's, I was very tempted with them myself, but having read up a little more have plumped for the AKG's, price did come into at well since they will only be used in my 2nd system. (Thinkpad, D30, Oelhbach re-clocker, NVA AP10H).
Edit: I was just looking at a pair of those on ebay and asked the question if they were the ones you sold, (you beat me to it) they obviously are. I'm sure they suit Alan down to the ground.

I've received and given the AKG's a listen today, have to say I'm very pleased. Compared to my PSB's the sound is much less in your head, bass is clearer and appears punchier (maybe something to do with the clarity) Detail is pretty much on par and although there is more weight with the PSB I prefer the AKG's. Keepers for me. |
