Can take 7v off the cap In front of the big heatsink. That's what I do. I also put an extra 1k resistor in and it stops the LED beaming! What is the component of the CAP please? I want to avoid any mistakes. 100nf cap in front of the 7805.

Another question, I assume that the loading plugs are kind of in the signal path, so should I also use decent cable here? They are, and yes. Although if like me you don't change carts often, I put the resistor straight into the PCB

The cap is C2P. Yes use decent cable for the loading plugs, they are in parallel with the signal.

I thought I was about to celebrate.... It has powered up ok. No magic smoke, but there is no difference in the gain between MM and MC. What have I done wrong?

Yes. But it seems like only MM gain is available.
I can hear the relays clicking in and out.
No distortion, clean sound, just a lack of gain.

Crazy theory no.1.
I have fitted the LEDs round the wrong way, so they illuminate in MC mode. Is this a possible explanation?

I think the other option is the multi-get boards are fitted the wrong way round.

Should look like this: That will be it then. Mine are pointing the other way round.... Oops. I thought I had it right, based on a picture I saw somewhere.

Should look like this: That will be it then. Be careful taking them out. Those little holes get ruined quiet easily. I'd take the board off the legs personally

I have in running with the Reflektor 6N2P and the National PCC88 and it already sounds good.

Once this has burnt in, I look forward putting it up against Pinkies beloved PIP. The PIP (could be a 2) has always impressed me.
I think tonight is going to be a long night though.

I may have one little job left to do. The current power switch is illuminated by an Orange LED. To be consistent, I will swap it over for a blue one.

I did my first upgrade today. I changed the basic power cable with a Mark Grant cable I had spare.

I am reluctant to put the Teles in straight away. I will let things settle in first.
I assume it will burn in quicker if I leave it powered up for a few days.

Best to have a signal playing through it, that's the beauty of having a reverse RIAA box.

If the Tele's are no good, send em to me to be 'disposed' of, I will do it so no glass tubes are hurt in the process.

As posted elsewhere, I have checked all my valves this morning. For the BB3, I currently have:
2x TFK ECC83 1x EI ECC83 1x Raytheon ECC83
2x National PCC88 2x ERA PC88 2x Tunsgram PCC88
I could do with another set or two of PCC88, so will keep an eye out for some TFK at a sensible price.
I do have a foil getter Tunsgram ECC83 on the way as well, so I think I am good on ECC83. I should have enough to see me out.
