The transformer arrived today as well. As did the insulation and top hats. So, a bit of progress today: I need to fit the multifet boards, and the power connectors. I think I will wire the audio direct to the board.

So Mouser have cancelled my order, but didn't send me a confirmation they had done so.
So the 1% 6M8 resistors have been ordered from RS. They will be here Friday.
I should have 23 spares....

I will have a few spares after this build, due to some parts having minimum order quantities.

The HV and LV connectors have now been fitted, as have the connectors for the MM/MC switch, and the loading plugs. I have also fitted the multifet boards. That was fiddly ensuring that there was no short circuit caused by solder between the connections.
The missing two resistors are due on Tuesday, after that, I just need the case, and I can start making it look like a phono stage.

Before you say anything, I have already looked for a biscuit tin.

I'm sure you must have a local supermarket, when you buy a suitable tin, the biscuits come free.

The resistors arrived today, so soldered in place. I decided to try to power it up.
Magic smoke escaped from D7P and D8P, so some head scratching is now required, and some new parts.

Could be faulty parts, but I will be replacing all four diodes in that area.

Did you wire the LV secondary correctly Kevin? Odd that only two diodes in the negative leg of the bridge should blow.
9-0-9, so you should see about 18V or a bit more across the two outer terminals, if not then reverse one of the LV secondaries.

I need to check Alan. All has been disconnected for now.

It has to be a wiring mistake. New diodes should be here tomorrow. Before flicking on the power, I will double check what I am doing.

By tomorrow, I obviously mean Friday. I won't be using Farnell that often, unless I have to. Their next day delivery, is not next day.
I reckon I could have got them quicker from Mouser.

Diodes replaced, and we have valves glowing. Now I just need the case and the soft start to finish it.

I could, but I would rather wait until I can finish it properly, in case someone gets inquisitive when it is connected to the mains.

There is something very cool about watching a bundle of wires and parts produce music though.

Now I am getting impatient about the case.
Is there any advantage about fitting a mu-metal divider between the toroid and the PCB?

Only if you hit it or heat it. If you just bend it once it's fine. If you bend its a few times it work hardens like buggery.

It was a 0.3mm strip as advertised on eBay.
If there is no benefit, as the traffo is shielded, then I will give it a miss.
