Both look good to me, if you can't decide there is always a toss of a coin.

Both look good to me, if you can't decide there is always a toss of a coin. Can't tell the difference yet lol. Hopefully after 4+ coats there will be one. If not then I'll probably opt for Danish oil as it has a uv filter in it for sunlight.

Ok so 6 coats of oil later this is wahtbit looks like. The Shiniest left side has also had 2 coats of wax which makes quite a difference. Pretty hapy with the result so will gi down this road I think. I also have some solid walnut strips for the edging to finish things off, shown untreated. So wood sanded to 220 grits , 2 coats oil. Then an oil wet sand with 600 wet and dry . Another 4-5 coats oil and 2 coats wax . It'll take me another 5 years to finish at this rate! Still storm Dudley means I just have to sit chill and listen to them as I'll have to work outside for all that. 😎 Dreaming Lenco and power amp project dreams....☺

Did some scruffy filler work bit it'll sand off ok. A bit mor needed on the left as the cuts on the wood wasn't quit square. But it won't be noticed at the finish.

It's sunny, and as we know this means the campaigning season has started. As a prelude to the main thrust I have reconnoitered forwards and finished by planting feet in forward positions. More dispatches from the front in due course.

Test fit. Took a while to sand the glue from around the hole. Pleased though.

Where do you buy the veneer from these days, and is it expensive mate? Maybe info for a future project. Lenco GL75 or something similar

Where do you buy the veneer from these days, and is it expensive mate? Maybe info for a future project. Lenco GL75 or something similar Hi I used these ,paper backed veneer. Not cheap but depends which type of wood you buy. There are some on ebay also and they do smaller sheets, but this comes ready sanded to 150 grit which saves a lot of time unlike the ebay stuff, unless you want the raised grain look of course. I'm going to sand to 220 g before oiling as that gives a nicer finish for me . I used raw maple veneer left overs from my BB3 build for the baffles. That is harder to use though, easier to split and shrinks a bit if you used the iron on method. Paper backed is a lot more forgiving than that to work with and easier to cut. Wood veneer hub
Cheers EN

Good progress there Andy. Thanks Alan, I have some solid walnut strips for the edging on the face and base for a finishing touch. If the weather's good this weekend they might be done bar the final finishing. Course, if the weather's good I might get distracted! 😊

Finishing veneer by matching up the lip by the baffle. Trimmed and with 1 coat of oil.

It's taken a long time but I reckon Guy Fountain would give you his seal of approval, if he was still knocking about.

There's so many variations of both the drivers and cabinets that I'm not sure it can be said that there is a Tannoy 'sound.'
I've heard many, from terrible, murky sounding efforts to ones that have clarity approaching a modern studio monitor.
The fundamental principles of the driver design are still sound today after about 60 years which is amazing really given they had next to nothing to work with back then.
