Hi mate, cracking build! Also doing a wee DIY of my own right now. do you have any contact details you could send me for the guy who makes the badges? Would love a set of these plus maybe some plaques depending on what he does. Cheers, Peter. Hi , he is on Lenco Heaven, his sales thread is here. www.lencoheaven.net/forum/index.php?topic=24069.0He is in Russia so you may have to wait a bit but he is rwliable and it took about 2 weeks to get here after posting . So not too long. He does load of different badges/plaques etc, they all look really good.

I've got a set of the original large plastic ones (had them for years so didn't cost anything) but they're little worn now and the brass ones are quite smart. Need a new set or two and these look good. What's a ballpark figure including postage?

I've got a pair of GRF narrow replicas at the moment that I'm tinkering with plus a pair of genuine factory built Arden legacy enclosures (no plates)so that's what the badges etc are for.

Had no time over summer to do anything with these due to various shenanigans. However today started on the plinths which will hold the xovers. 100 mill deep with 2mm recess for the feet. The new management is not impressed with my efforts!

Well playing theae for a couple of weeks, very happy with them but felt I wasn't getting the depth or wieght of bass that should be happening with 2* 10 drivers. So had a think about rhimgs and decided to change a couple of xover caps on the bass side of the xover . Chose Clarity cap CSA as a mid range option , 6.8uf and need 4 so didn't want to get too spendy as I was unsure of the return. Anyway the increase in tone and bass response was very noticeable, deeper, fulller tone and far more presence. The Mundorfs they replaced were a very basic pair, when I bought the xovers I decided to put the money into the inductors to start rather than fancy caps. So, a good up grade ofr me with immediate tangible results. Dud it a couple of weeks ago but not got round to updating the thread. 🙂 Theya re the big purple ones , larger but still fitted in neatly.

Hard to argue with clarity caps IME, and nice to see you getting stuck in. Those Tannoys have grown into a larger project, haven't they. There has to be a bit more enjoyment knowing you built them up yourself.

Well I always had an end point for them, it's just taking some time!! Looking at the hf on the xover next. Then it will be time to veneer etc.

So , after the sucess of the bass adjustments in the xover I tackled the tweeter side. Reading around it seems the signal resistor has a bit of influence here and is worth a bit of money. So, one path resistor and mundorf supreme evo oil cap later... Not cheap, but not silly money either , 80 quid for both xovers to be done. I also replaced the white concrete resistor with a mills wire wound. All the same values as the original parts. Anyway they have played in for a week now and the woofer and tweeter sound more integrated resulting in a smother overall presentation. Interestingly, the Path resistor has a copper casing which has an "earth" wire , this is advised to be connected to the .negative speaker terminal as a drain. Pleased with the results so won't be messing with these again. 🙂

I have been enjoying these immensely lately. But thus has meant that I have been putting off the final touches and finishing etc as I'd have to take out the drivers to do all that.
Anyhow, I have now actually chosen and ordered the veneer I want (teak) so when that arrives I'll have to fill and sand them before getting that sorted.
I also managed to get some solid dark walnut strips at a good price off the bay. Once cut to size this will be used for some beading and edging to protect the veneer and give a nice finish on the facing.

Black ink? sounds interesting would have to experiment e bit 1st. To be sure of an even finish all over. Thinking of oil , Danish or finishing, will do a test piece over the weekend.

So a test piece with 2 oils ,finishing and Danish . the lighter piece is the original veneer so it has darkened up after 1 coat quite a lot. Will do 3/4 coats of each after which I can compare the finish and see it I can a) tell the difference 😊 and b) Decide which one I like better.
