Sorted out my cartridges for the Lenco. Furthest away is a GE RPX061 for mono duties. Middle is an A&R P77 with an ESCo modded paratrace diamond Closest is the Ortofon OM10 with a 78 stylus.

They all look great. How does the GE RPX061 sound. I love decent MONO carts.

Well that looks bloody perfect, doesn't it! Period correct and performance from the arm well beyond its original capability. Fantastic!

I want that Technics - giz it.
Just a general question but has been puzzling me - why do none of you TT fanatics ever consider a linear tracking arm?

I would consider a linear arm but waiting for the right one (I have one in the cupboard somewhere but it uses air and a pump so difficult to use and not introduce a lot of background noise).
The plan is to get one of my Lenco's out of the garage to knock up a plinth so I can work with one in the future but too many other things to do at the moment.

Linear arm?
Nope.
I will explain why, but can't at the minute as I'm just about to go to football with the lad.

All the liear arms I have read about seem to have far too much faffing around involved.

All the linear arms I have read about seem to have far too much faffing around involved. In a nutshell, it's another of those hifi things where someone decided to solve one problem (null points/IGD) and ended up creating more problems to solve. When you have a device that creates a new issue when you fix the last one, you should realise you are on a hiding to nothing, and that is the very essence of linear tracking tonearms.

Didn't like the way the ORBE looked with the SME V mounted - the pillar sticks up a lot. Rummaged through my bits and found some bobbins: Before (not a great photo but hope you can see how far the pillar sits above the arm board): And after: No noticeable difference in the SQ so happy

So - to get the AT1010 arm working on the SP10 I had to use the cable from the SME V which was a Gothic audio silver thingy. Noticed they now do copper so purchased one to use with SME arm, but it doesn't fit due to the angle and the small space available (I bought a right-angle one as I thought it would work better!!!) So, had to swap over the silver one back to the SME and the copper one is now in use in the SP10. First impressions are very good but only got to listen to one track of a record before we had to go out so will report back once I have a few hours on it. A pic of what I bought:

3rd album in and so far it is doing what it should do. Nothing too untoward compared to the other cable which was 4 or so times more expensive. Perhaps the soundstage is a little bit shallower and not as wide but it has only been used for a few hours so far. Pretty happy so far

I need to get a cable for the Jelco when the new 401 plinth lands at Lurch Towers. Currently thinking of getting a Yannis Tome in the £50 - £75 range but theres to much choice/options to know what to order.

Very happy with this copper Gothic Earth cable so far - think it was £55 so worth a punt - plus it's 2 metres which is handy as most are 1 or 1.5.

Would love a listen one day. I am currently borrowing a tonearm cable from Oli, so need one at some point. Oli has advised the ultinate choice (pc ccc) but this is too pricey atm.

As the Orbe didn't sell I decided to put it back to as it was to eek the best performance from it. Pete's Pylons, Pete's Feet and the acrylic platter. Just needs a slight tweak as the platter is running just over 33.3 (33.4) so tomorrow I will get my DM out to play with the PSU.

I'm sure it will pick up after Christmas 👍

Bought and picked up this week - needs a bit of work but nothing major. Some pics from the seller: Its a speed controller for Garrard 301/401s and Lenco's plus other turntables (great project from Nigel on the Lenco Heaven forum). The build quality and parts used is superb and the cost was a steal that I couldn't let it pass. Just got to use an oscilloscope to calibrate the speed controller then it will be good to go. He has also given me another traffo (which wasn't cheap)

Thought it looked like a Nigels speed controller. Lovely looking build, they have a good rep too. Nice score.

He wasn't happy with the output transformer so bought a Canterbury Windings traffo but never used or installed - so once I have it up and running (won't be for a while as to many things on the go at the mo, especially getting my garage waterproofed) I will assess whether I need to replace it.
When Nigel started the project I actually bought 2 boards and some of the parts needed such as the rare speed controller chips but for one reason or another never got around to building one. When I retire I will get these up and running and probably sell on.
