Cheers - does Guy still sell the Tenuto or is it second hand only? I couldn't tell you. My only advise is don't skimp out. We may be able to do comparisons here at some time soon as the MK8 arm is now undergoing a possible full redesign, so when that's done we could get Angus to bring platter mats to play with too.

That sounds like a plan to me then

+1 Tenuto from me as well. I did EXTENSIVE platter mat testing on my 1210 and must have tried 10-15 different types before I ended up with the Tenuto, I now have one on all my main three decks (a 1210, Garrard 301 and a 401).

Did you try an AT600? I only ask as I want to try one. Never tried the AT600 but I've been through God knows how many different Cork, Neoprene, Astrosorb, Glass, Poron, Achromat, Garrard original mat, several original Thorens, Herbies mat etc etc etc, plus probably a few I've forgotten. One of the best things I bought was a platter ring. I use this alongside a heavy copper weight. I use the combo to try and emulate the effect of a platter vacuum like some of the high end TT's. I'm trying to get the record as flat as possible and couple with the Tenuto, results have been favourable so far. It is a bit of a faff changing the whole thing every 22 minutes!

Sorry - been away from the computer and missed the chat. Yes, near Leeds and would be interested to try a different mat to see if my ears can tell the difference or not then I can put my hand in my almost empty pocket (someone mention Christmas.....)

Hang on for another 3 or 4 months, don't forget that possible meet up which someone was going to organize.

I was in the garage looking for something and stumbled across my old DCC player. Plumbed it in and sounding very nice indeed

Hah Discovered why its in the garage After playing both sides it has now decided to inject quiet bits in the playback. I don't have a DAC to bypass the internals so not sure if its on the analogue or digital side. Anyone have a spare DAC they can lend to see where in the chain the problem lies (digital out is toslink only)??

Problem could be the tape not the player, take a look at this

Not the tape as it does it with analogue tapes (it is like a millisecond or so of nothing-ness if that makes sense) I think it could be capacitor or resistor in the audio chain - will see if any more interweb info on this.

Just had a quick google and they reckon its the pinch wheels need replacing and a good clean of the head so will open it up and check it out!

Owe you an apology as it was a combination of both. Cleaned the head and pinch wheels and on analogue tapes no issues. Still had the issue with the DCC tape - checked it over and the tape is damaged

Speaking to DCC experts they say it will be the pinch wheels which are the problem and will need to be replaced. Easy to get out so I will check these in the next few days to see if they are damaged (they apparently get blisters) and organise replacements. If they are damaged they will cause your tapes to become foobar'd

Not posted for a while (regarding music/kit etc) due to work/life etc. Getting back into music/kit again as my van has now gone Have a really nice copper mat for the Technics TT (will show once I can be arsed to polish it) but just listening to some tunes as I type this - soo good. As I have never tried/owned a tangential or air based tonearm, I bought one the other month which I will be using on the JVC TT-71 rig. Won't work with the current arm base so will need to build an arm pod for it then will see how it goes. Pictures to follow soon
