The plan is to build a pre at some point, but until then, make do with what I have.

Balanced signalling limits noise ingress, whether all or some of your setup is balanced doesn't matter. Each single ended step you remove 'can' results in better snr at the end.
Of course each se to balanced conversion also introduce losses, so best not to swap back and forth multiple times.
My Paradise is se, my dac and pre and powers balanced.

Anyone else noticed after unplugging interconnects they can sometimes sound better than you remember when you plug them back in?

Anyone else noticed after unplugging interconnects they can sometimes sound better than you remember when you plug them back in? Yeah, it's well spouted across the numerous forums Jim, for as long as I can remember. Interconnects, plugs etc, the whole unplug and reconnect thing being beneficial and bringing audible improvement. I'm sure I've done this but cant swear that I've consciously thought blimey! that's better or good. It's not something I practice as a habit so cant remember to be honest. I tell you what though, I'd have remember if it sounded worse

I tell you what though, I'd have remember if it sounded worse I don't mess with my ICs too often Rob as its a pain messing with them and doing A-B-C comparisons is even more painful so I usually stay put for a good while but I have noticed an uplift in my long term Spotfire ICs. Maybe I have rubbed off some microns of oxide or something disconnecting and reconnecting them? I have in the past been known to polish valve pins, fuse ends, plug pins and deoxit just about any connection I could get at in the search of better connection in the hope of a sonic uplift.

It's good practice for sure, do it myself from time to time, even a little deoxit. Never done it when things have sounded off or bad. I plug back in and it continues to sound nice

Just writing up a piece on this item that has now become a part of my system. All will be revealed soon. All I can say is this item has taken me by surprise and defies conventional audiofool conceptions.

That's what I meant. Btw totally agree that cables can make a difference , no argument from me there. Signal ones at least, never ventured in to mains cable stuff so can't comment there.

I use NOS Tesla ECC83 in my preamp and a GE JAN 5751 in the power amp. However the item I am referring too is BIG. VERY BIG!
