how did you know they were un taxed, did you take the reg numbers down and check on line? yes we have many institutions here and parking is a massive problem . the local mosque , 2 churches , one BIG school all via for parking on this road . however folks [ probably traders ] dump untaxed broken cars there for months stopping folks parking . they are easy to spot with junk in the seats or writing on windscreen or leaves on road by tyres one can check online as you know , you can even check MOT history . eventually with a lot of effort from Police etc they get removed last year some folks dumped 2 cars in the church carpark for months . one was worth at least 4 k but we eventually got it towed away . i nearly had heart failure when the very important dignitary rang up to see where this car had gone !!!! heaven knows why he rang up or why someone should leave a perfectly nice car with windows half down untouched for weeks

had one of those Beetles that are just a Golf in drag parked outside mine for a few weeks, all the tyres were flat.
I don't know if that's why it was left there or the owner just realised the shame of driving about in it.
I was starting to think about breaking it for spares and selling them on eBay but then it was moved. Don't know if it was towed or owner came back.

staying on cars there's a youth near me with an 18 year old BMW Coupe. Cosmetically it looks very good but the engine needs attention. Every time he starts it up he likes to rev it for a couple of minutes (no exaggeration) before he blasts off. He surely must be able to hear that it's knackered, or close to it, especially with all the revving.
Some poor sod down the road just got himself an LDV van, ex Virgin Media judging by what's left of the livery stickers. He had all the seats out of it the other day when I went down the shop, and was cleaning the inside which was in a shocking state. As were the seats.
When I came back he was still at it and amazingly the doors hadn't fallen off it yet. But they will. They will.

Carpets in my bedrooms were there when I moved in, wouldn't surprise me if they were fifty years old. They still look fine though apart from one patch where the cat was sick.
There is also an old free-standing cupboard/drawer unit in the front bedroom, one of the drawers was lined with a newspaper from 1946. I'd guess that the unit itself must be from the era 1901-1920.

You need more practice on your Spring cleaning

The flags will be out now and the party has started at Fedex In all seriousness make the most of your retirement Macca, a job maybe crop up somewhere 1 or 2 days per week, I do the odd day unloading new cars off the ship, don't think of it as work, more a day out driving luxury cars and meeting people.

I think I'll get bored sooner rather than later but we'll see. 2 days a week that would do for me now. Was toying with the idea of going back into security work, you can just drop in and out of that as you please. You have to do a course first nowadays though. Anyway not under any pressure to do anything thank God.

Anyway not under any pressure to do anything thank God. Congrats on achieving this Macca. When I first ‘retired’ someone said to me that I needed 6 months to adjust. It was sound advise, after which I started some part time work. I’ve stopped that now. But it’s all been a process … It’s a great time of year to finish full time.. the summer ahead, months of longer daylight. Much better than running into winter. Wishing you all the very best with it all.

went into work for the last time then went to the leaving do. All very sad. Managed to get myself a memento: Well done, Macca. It's probably come a little earlier than you expected/wanted, but as Dave said, enjoy it. If boredom steps in, start a HiFi blog...."HiFi for the sane" Start a work from home part time job, or open that coffee shop we talked about. More importantly, enjoy what comes next.

Managed to get myself a memento: All the best in early retirement Macca mi ole fruit As the Olster says, whatever you do try and enjoy being off/free, now's not the time to worry is what I say, just be smart with any retirement money and resist giving it all to the hifi world
