Had a lovely walk in shaldon botanical gardens overlooking teignmouth . What a fab place . Then quick ferry to teignmouth which was so foggy you could not see the end of the short pier. Used to have family in Teignmouth. Every summer for about 5 years, I'd spend about three weeks there. Ok for the first four days or so, but mind numbing after that if the weather was crap. If the sun was out, most days were spent in the Lido round the corner, the pier or playing football on the green. Haven't been there for 15 years or more.

I did notice, but don't like to ask lol. Permali, I presume for a larger plinth whilst retaining the top panzer sheet?

Yeah, I had a look into it a few days ago. Fancied some for for a rack, but the quote was a bit....mad. Not quite the same as Panzer in terms of damping, but far better than anything else available in the UK. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

cheer,i saw that earlier, the trouble is it doesn't say what type of Permali was tested, and if the samples are the same thickness. i think at the end of the day its as you say better than ply etc.

went to Steve's to see if we could sort out his speaker problems with a bit of EQ
Zu Omen Defs, two 10 inch full range drivers and a horn loaded tweeter. He says they are a bit bass-shy and shouty.
I could see what he meant after a bit of a listen, they were toppy and a bit clattery in the mids. Stuck in an equaliser and dialled down 1-4 Khz by 2dB. Loads better. Much more balanced, you could hear what the bass was doing although despite the size of the speaker it doesn't seem to go that low in the bass. It does just about enough and no more.
Then I shelved the whole frequency band above 1 Khz down by 2dB - even better I thought, but he though it was a bit sat on so we went back to the previous setting.
Interesting speakers, not the sort of thing I go for but they have some strengths. Very fast and dynamic. If you are one of those people who like it to sound 'live' whether it is or not, then you'd really like them.
Plus if you are into low power valve amps they are ideal partner, sensitive and high impedance. But you will need either a very well-damped room (like padded-cell damped) or some EQ just to tame them a bit.

Very dynamic and forward sounding speakers exciting but grating after a short while even with 7 watts of SET

Been spring cleaning most of the week. Was going to wait until I finished work but don't have a lot on so thought I'd make an early start.
Done the living room but kitchen is the worst, I think I've put about 4 hours in so far and it could do with another 4 to get it to 'operating theatre' clean.
It's not had a proper go at it since I was last out of work which was April 2004. Oops.
The worst of it is done now anyway. Just need to clean out the cupboards but there's millions of them. Can't be arsed with it today though so I'm listening to music instead.

With the mids dialled back a bit I could happily listen to them all day although I could think of a lot of speakers I'd rather have for that sort of money.

Today I was gifted a copy of the Cat Steven album "Tea for the Tillerman".
I've been helping a friend move some of his HiFi gear, and he stuck the Super Deluxe Box set version of this absolute classic in the bottom of a box of speaker cables that are up for sale next.
I was absolutely shocked, but totally grateful. It's a wonderful gesture.
I cannot wait for my tonearm to arrive so I can give this a listen. Fantastic.
Thanks Nigel 😊

Today I've enjoyed a day without my upstairs tennent being in residence so could play my tunes louder than normal. Have just REALLY turned the wick UP, tapping my feet, moving my head and grinning like a loon to New Order & Blue Monday. A good tune at any volume, but absolutely frigging MEGA!!! when dial is waaay up. Gonna have to take that cd to the Wam show.
