I haven’t got a clue what you’re on talking about mate? Lol Southpaw = lefthanded. Assumed this from looking at the start point + weld meniscus (top surface curved weld signature) of the horizontal fillet. Downwash = welding from top to bottom, as opposed to the correct way to achieve weld penetration of welding from bottom to top. But then again if your lefthanded you could have layed the short edge (vertical in photo) on the bench to weld it. I was a manufacturing/welding engineer so that's why I notice these things. 😁

Indeed Martin, you can now relax and take up a hobby (ies) that will entertain you and keep you sane whilst doing it at your own pace. Good luck on your new way in the world

Opps. Yep forgot about the weave when fillet welding which reverses the curve of the meniscus.

That is a quality seamless weld as you say no subsitute for experiance, patience and ultra clean surfaces. I first started TIG welding 38 years ago, one of the jobs was to repair any CNC machine damage done to a Harrier jump jet fuel system by tool damage on the early CNC machines, the mantra was get it right or its scrap. No pressure then
Nice to see quality workmanship thanks

Today I took delivery of a load of those Chinese, ebay, snare drum damper pads. Four betwixt each speaker and stand and speakers repositioned with my wooden back wall template and it sounds like..
It did before.

Today I am packing my bags, ready to come back to the U.K. for the first time in two and a half years. You coming to this meet on 8th May then? Unfortunately, no. I fly back the Thursday before. It was a trip I had to make in the school holidays. My parents won't last forever, so it was important I came back for my daughter and them.q

Thanks for all your well-wishes btw. Feels really weird not being at work after all these years but I suppose I'll adjust, it's only day one. You’ll have to get some hobbies now! well I need to learn how to cook so I can conserve money. Made myself bacon and eggs yesterday, what a mess that was. I'm sure I used to be able to cook that but it's been years since I cooked for myself. But I bought a week's food for what I'd usually spend on one take-away.

I did bacon and egg sandwiches on Monday morning as brunch, I always grill bacon and ensure the oil is hot when dropping the egg into the frying pan, I'm no cook but my brother always enjoys those sarnies I keep wanting to do a spicy mince, will get round to it sometime or other, the trouble is there are so many pre cooked foods and you only have to boil up a few veggies to go with them.

I forgot to buy oil so used butter, didn't really work that well, egg was scrambled rather than fried. All goes down the same way though.
Going to try again at lunchtime. Hungry already, been up since 0700, need to try to get out of that habit now that there's no need for it.
Got all the ingredients for spaghetti Bolognese, going to attempt that later on. I know I used to be able to make that pretty good.

We used to eat out a fair bit, but things just taste way better when cooked in the Ninja!

I get up anytime between 4am and 6am, but am never too late in going to bed.

I like to get 8 or 9 hours so that means going to bed about midnight but I'm usually unconscious by 2300 if not earlier. It would help if the late night telly was a bit better than it is.

Couldn't be getting up at 4am. That's the middle of the night. Used to get up at 0500 when I worked shifts, it's still dark then even in the summer.

Are you Brighton way Jamie? I used to be a welder/fabricator at Iron Designs in Portslade about 15 years ago.

It was a decent place to work. Plenty of old boys who wouldn’t go near a MIG set and produced lovely welds every single time with a stick like the one in your photo. Don’t know about you but there was never much talk about a welds meniscus, I think you swallowed the welders handbook Lurch!
We used to cut out a lot of the rotten cast iron balcony balustrade on the buildings along the sea front, re-cast and then re-fabricate. Much of the cast iron work on the building to the right of Embassy Court on the seafront was my handiwork just before I moved to London.
