It was a long time ago Jerry and as you may well know over the years, I've learned that what seemed right back then 'before digital' may well not be the same with today's gear that's a lot more truthful to the source material I believe.

I had a VdH retipped Linn Asak, and I was just blown away by it. I've no idea what difference the VdH retip made as I've not heard the original, but the underlying bouncy robustness and downright clarity of the cart was amazing. It was, in retrospect, the best sounding cartridge that I had owned over decades of playing with moderately high endish carts. I suspect that if it just happens to coincide with your preferences then it is one stonker of a device! Other favourites have included Dynavector 10x5 and DV17D3 , rebodied Zu-Denon 103, and Ortofon MC25FL.Loads of others have come and gone but none quite lit my fire like those. I also had a couple of MC25FL's and really liked them. I've just wiped out the cantilever on one with a duster ! What Prick!

Ok, i wouldn't be against it if i had the means to save up for one in a relativly short space of time. I do plan on getting an Ortofon A95. Thats a long term goal but one i intend to complete. You just can't get what some of these cartridges do for less money. The Kb is the closest compromise. A vienna'd Kb is better still. That can be done for £800 all in, if Killian still has access to the parts

BULLSHIT.....I've heard carts costing £xxxxs pissed on by carts costing £xxxs This is the kind of bollocks that alienate genuine music lovers. Come on! I said SOME. YES, There is always one MM that will RIP a hole in the MC dominance. The 2m black, Acutex 412, Goldring 2500. They will all outdo a few MC, but they cant do what the big boys do. If they could, you'd be paying for it. Seriously, I have heard some staggeringly expensive cartridges. Upwards of £5k. They are not all worth that money, but a brand new Kb would set you back £2k in today's money, and its absolutely worth it. I have tried almost everything else and I am telling you, they don't do it the same. I believe the A95/Windfeld/Vienna are the top cartridges available to a working class person. I don't need anyone to believe me either, I know for myself, whereas you ain't heard it full stop.

£2000......all respect but Fuk off.
I could list a dozen carts MM & MC under a grand that would sound as good.
C'mon....as XTC said on T.O.G.W.T take your Spangle Glasses off.

My favourite cartridges are probably the following
Cheap MM - AT95 with Shibata stylus
Top level MM - Technics EPC-205 with Neo SAS, Audio Technica AT20SS or AT150mlx
MC cartridges - My shibata tipped rebodied DL-103, probably.
I have no experience of "high budget" MC cartridges.

Van den Hul Frog Gold. The only cartridge I've used in my main system since 2005 (re-tipped in the meantime ofc). Before that I tried shedloads of different ones, MM and MC, none of which made much impression. I have an Ortofon MC20 on the turntable in the 'upstairs' system, but I haven't used that for a while.

Which, again, may be an endorsement or not. I bought it with trepidation, as it was far more expensive than any other cartridge I'd ever bought, even at the bargain price I got it for, but it's proved its worth over the 15 years or so I've owned it. When I'm even older and more doddery than I am now, I might have to biff the vinyl, but the Frog Gold should see me through till then.
