Any ebay listing with the word "rare" included in the title needs to be avoided like the plague.
I interpret that word being used as: "I searched on ebay this morning and couldn't find another one" or, "It has always been a bag of awful sounding unreliable shite back in the day so nobody bought any back then, hence the lack of examples around today".
Sums it up well methinks.

Upgraded by RFC. That's the chap who also upgrades crossovers for Tannoy's. He used to post on AOS. S.

They're almost certainly better than the originals then. Trouble is you don't get your upgrade cash back when you're selling.
Fundamentally flawed speakers IMO. Not worth spending money trying to make them better.

I actually love the originals and so paying my 3-4 times their value for something so far removed seems pointless. If you spend that sort of money on bespoke, you have to accept you are unlikely to get it back. The seller needs a reality check.

Take a look at how much it costs to buy British made hifi in the USA (Naim, Linn, Michell)

Sonneteer best seller, but definitely not their best product. It’s up there with the competition and it’s still a great product, but the amps and CD replay are better IMO,

I'm going to raise the bar pretty high here: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123883350382So you've got a budget amp, speakers and cd player that all bundled together would usually fetch maybe £400 on a good day but add in some Russ Andrews tat and some 'Ghost Tunning (sic) Studios' whatever and now it's worth £10800. Apparently. If ever there was a prime example of how not to spend your hi-fi budget this is it.

What's not to like? Cheapo drivers, vinyl wrap chipboard boxes and dismal sound. Charity shop or boot sale fodder, £20 tops!

I wouldn't have them if they were free never mind twenty quid tops! I'd maybe give him ten bob for the tweeters. The rest he can skip.

That's Charlie selling that thing. He's got a very expensive Hi-Fi system. Bit pretentious for my taste.

I think it's a fair price. I have the identical machine and it was what I would want for it if I sold it. They don't tend to hang around on the used market.

Wow, I never realised RCM kept their value to thjis extent, can't think of another piece of hifi that does so well, especially since an RCM has moving parts. I've always gone, and this maybe not true for every item, but a loss of 40% every 3 years.

And just to prove my point, Macca has just posted Gazjam's Edindales for sale at AoS, on another thread.

Sorry, but what is your point?
For highly respected kit in good working order 50% of original retail is about the norm for an asking price. Doesn't matter how old it is, it will never depreciate down to nothing Added to which most people want a proper RCM but won't fork out £500. Which does seem a lot. So the second hand market for them is very strong.
Also Moths are built like tanks, nothing like the inferior Okki Nokki or Project efforts. They'll do tens of thousands of hours of LP cleaning without missing a beat. All you have to do is replace the felt pads occasionally.

We will have to agree to disagree on whether kit depreciates on a yearly basis. I would not buy anything with moving parts for 50% of it's original value when the item is 10 years old. It was just that I was looking for a RCM, and I thought that might be for me.

You won't get a better RCM for the money. I really wouldn't worry about the age of it. And Charlie is 100%.
