Did you share this opinion of his work with him 'face to face' while he was alive? Or were you waiting until he could not respond? I think you know the answer to that one Paul. Is there an ignore function on this forum ? I was happy not to ignore it...

...his circuits were just basic application notes from transistor suppliers. Did you share this opinion of his work with him 'face to face' while he was alive? Or were you waiting until he could not respond? Gentlemen, I have no issue allowing words to be posted about the man in this sad time BUT it cannot descend In to argument or shot slinging. Paul, a valid point. Si, maybe too soon. Keep it civil please, or this will be modded swiftly.

Sad to read the news of Richard's passing. Bit hard to believe.
Whatever people's view of him might be, forum land won't be quite the same without him, will it?

So many audio products are the 'mere' use of established design and/or layout. Indeed, my QED Digit dac (which I doggedly use still) was merely a drawn out implementation of the Philips 'Bitstream chipset' application notes - the chap who 'designed it' was paid a small fee for drawing it out and no more... Naim have plaigarised the old 50's RCA PA amp circuit for decades now (so did Sinclair in the project 60 amp kits), although current models may have evolved from this somewhat - the Nait 5 and descendants have routinely had an output inductor (EEK!). I was also told that the early Naim preamps were based on similar thinking as the Quad 33, although I'm not as certain here (both band limited and using single rail supplies, the 33 at 12VDC and Naim at 24VDC). There was an article I read with laughter regarding the Rappaport preamp from forty odd years ago. Little brushed black box with satin ally knobs and buttons and the circuit all potted up - oohh, got to be special - ... Turns out the thing was a directly copied implementation of a particular op-amp chip, using the mistakes in the application notes and no attempt to correct them. The thing popped and banged with free-flowing DC due to the incorrect application notes. All the press at the time worshipped it!!!!! RD never hid his amp board from online view to be fair...

Other pre-amps came and went, but the Rappaport stayed until I bought a VTL.

I may have been speaking of the Pre 1 then... It sounded shite in the shop too and we didn't keep it long.

I met that Rappaport guy in the 80s. I only remember two things about him: Deathly boring and severe halitosis.

Why did I expect to see Boris or Trump?

Richard and I had many robust discussions around many aspects of hifi, electronics, marketing psychology and forum etiquette/ revisionism.
We never held back and seldom agreed.
I have great respect for his approach to customer service, pricing and value, less so for other aspects.
I'll actually miss the old fella. But let's not saint him. He wasnt, we arent.

It's not me this time. It's our secret IT guru and Westie, making some fine adjustments.
There may be a few changes over the next week but don't worry, it'll be all the better for it.
I hope lol.

Don't like the current skin shade. It's the sort of faded lilac you seen on old settees at the council tip.

He was saying the other day we should tell Europe to stick their 30 billion bill where the sun doesn't shine. I'm warming to him I think.

Play Tory 'Pick a Prick'. Now then, what have we got here? The clown prince of politics, a complete non-entity, a little git nobody likes, a dweeb, a Heinrich Himmler impersonator and a guy you wouldn't buy a used car from! The choice is yours.

I’d probably pick the one most likely to screw up Brexit, Gotta be Boris. I’ve said for a while I think he will call an election and I still think he will. Statistically there has to be a chance of him screwing up and the campaign unravelling.

If Boris becomes prime minister, he'll cost the Conservatives the next general election as long as Labour have the sense to change their leader to just about anybody other than Corbyn, who is unelectable. (Diane Abbott excluded of course)

They announced on the news that "Sajid Javid has been knocked out". I was thinking he could do with a clump. Presumably he will recover, but I'd like to congratulate whoever it was that did it!

So we have a 2 horse race between a Tory whose name is used as slang for C#nt and another one whose face says the same thing.

And the one eliminated is the biggest C#nt of all. I hate Gove, what a slippery, slimy wee slug of a man he is.

Whoever gets it, the Tories are doomed. No deal will be voted down or the government will fall, either way a general election will follow. Farage will bleed off 40% of Tory votes and Corbyn will have a 100 seat majority...which should wind up the backward thinking, small minded, bigoted right wing wankers very nicely.

Well you can dream I suppose.
Funny really, we'd already have had a no deal exit back in March if the EU didn't want us to stay in so badly. Despite all the claims that they don't need us, they'll be better off without us,that we don't have any power to negotiate etc etc they were still happy to break their own rules and extend the deadline.
Come October it will be the same thing. It's a default exit then as it was on 29th of March so what Parliament votes for or doesn't vote for is irrelevant. My bet is the EU won't let us go then, either.
