Whoever gets it, the Tories are doomed. No deal will be voted down or the government will fall, either way a general election will follow. Farage will bleed off 40% of Tory votes and Corbyn will have a 100 seat majority...which should wind up the backward thinking, small minded, bigoted right wing wankers very nicely. I suspect Farage will bleed off labour votes and seats too. I’d also bet Boris thinks that: A. His personal popularity will allow him to increase his seats and get a vote through. B. He can trust Farage and get a deal done. C. He can avoid making a serious blunder and avoid having the election he called spiral out of his control. Im banking on him being his usual bumbling self, making a massive gaffe whilst being shafted by Farage and back-stabbed by Gove. For me, Corbyn is a price worth paying to get shot of Brexit. It might be a long shot but I’m still not convinced there’s a way through this without another people’s vote. Unless Boris calls an election and does well.

Say anything I want? Here’s a prediction. Boris Johnson to have the shortest tenure of any Conservative Party leader. I might even see if I can get odds on it.

In the Telegraph the other day Charles Moore, one of their columnists, was musing over whether Boris Johnson's rackety private life unsuited him to be PM. Moore suggested that the example of Lloyd George, who led Britain to victory in WWI, and who was also a randy get, proved otherwise. He either forgot, or failed to mention, that post-WWI, the Liberal party imploded.

I can't see him calling an election though. And it is no longer the PM's choice is it? Doesn't 2 thirds of the House have to approve it now?

Alec Douglas-Home in (my) living memory (less than two years in office). More recently, Iain Duncan Smith and Michael Howard managed just over two years each. As for Boris calling an election, I guess he could get two-thirds of the House backing it; the main opposition parties would probably not want to be seen avoiding an election. The Tories would be split, but the ERG lot might go for a pact with Farage's Brexit Party and hope to get an overall majority, with the Brexit Party beating Labour in 'leave' constituencies where the Tories would have no chance.

Brexit party will get a lot of votes but I doubt they'll get any MPs because of the way the system works. So I can't see any sort of Parliamentary Con/Brexit coalition happening. I suppose he could do a deal so they don't stand against each other in the marginals. That could work. ATM Labour party policy is to honour the result of the referendum in some form or another isn't it?

They don't know what they want, really.

The people of this country voted to leave, deal or no deal was never mentioned. Can someone please tell me why any deals have to be passed by Parliament? I will never vote again after this complete and utter cock up, we must be the laughing stock of Europe.

I see Boris has now won the Tory leadership race. Once he becomes Prime Minister, we'll have our own Trump 'mini me'. If it wasn't so tragic, it would be hillarious! What will the rest of the World be thinking of us? It's a major embarrassment!!

Boris has a 2-1 in a proper subject from Balliol, he may be many things but he's not an idiot. Whereas Trump is many things and an idiot. Although I'm warming to Trump even if it's just for the entertainment value.
One of my cousins (who used to edit the Telegraph and Daily Telegraph) knows him well and confirms he his as sharp as a tack. Whether that will translate in him leading England into the sunlit uplands I don't know. I'd have to say probably not. But we'll see.

As of yesterday, I'm a Doctor. (Not that sort of doctor, I'm afraid, so put that away, it's disgusting). A Doctor of Philosophy.

Due for a holiday soon. I'll be staying at this little gaff, in one of the most beautiful and isolated corners of Cornwall. It's my brother's place. Makes a change from going in the other direction to my seaside home in Kent.
