Seen so many horror stories in me time. 12 kids is common. Here’s the worst as close as I recall. It’s been a while but I have written it as I remember.
Illegal immigrant couple living in a 2 bed tower block apt in London claiming for 52 kids all registered at this address (not a typo).
Case had been handled by lots of staff and nobody saw an issue with this
The only way it was exposed was because of a driving offence (no licence iirc) which led the police to report the illegal immigrant status to HMRC.
Case went to court, only 2 kids were real. The rest were fake and this had not been picked up by HMRC.
The couple had used the proceeds to buy 4 houses across London worth something like 4 million.
The wife didn’t go to jail because of the 2 kids. IIRC Amnesty International argued “right to a family life” under the European Convention on human rights.
The guy got something like 6 months.
Nobody was deported because of the children and right to a family life again. I’m sure they were given indefinite leave to remain,
Last I heard. The properties had not been confiscated.
This was reported as a “success” in the staff magazine.......

It might already be a lot better but back then, it was outrageous. What got me was the kids didn’t even need to be in the country in order to claim for them. When you consider polygamous marriage in some countries and the difficulty in verifying parenthood/understanding foreign birth certificates, it was ripe for abuse. The system could accept 49 kids on a claim as standard and there was provision for more. Every extra kid got the same increment so can you imagine the excesses? Thankfully this has been capped but the bleeding hearts fought it all the way.

Sorry for the digression, here’s the next thing on my mind...............
Why do flies have 6 legs? FFS the lazy little bastards have wings. Why do they need 3 times as many legs as humans? But then they got greedy with the number of eyes too. With all those eyes, plus legs and wings, you’d expect them to be able to see clearly and move onto better things to eat than dog Sh#t. Maybe they missed out on brains because they stood too long in the queue for legs, wings and eyes. Serves them right.
