Nice deck, but I'd not pay more than £150 to £200 for a goodun. The AT arm is the best bit, but you can't take it off and use it elsewhere as the normal armlift is not included here.

Well, for you, yes; for me - no. When the Nait 1 came out a reviewer tried increasing the reservoir capacitance, only to find it had a negative effect.l, and Naim agreed. That's interesting. There was a definite increase in weight to the phonostage's sound. Saying that, I did change the brand of capacitor to Mundorf from JBX. Could the brand have made the difference rather than the capacitance? Wouldn't have thought the brand would make such a difference, but I've never really done any comparisons. Once I added a capacitor bank after the reservoir caps in a phono preamp. I just used spare capacitors I had lying around. I fitted them decreasing in value with each bypassing with a film, again decreasing in value. The highest value closest to the reservoir caps and the lowest to the phono circuit board. The supply was + & - 15v. There was about 24 caps in total on the board. I thought it might act in a sort of dam-effect like fashion. Anyway, it did have an effect. Surface noise became much, much less noticeable. It came as quite a surprise at the time. That was the most obvious difference.

Well if you go increasing it too much possibly so.. The original A&R Cambridge 'A60' Use a pair of 6,800uF Caps they switched to 10,000uF there after. I used 15,000 uF Plessy ones.

What has Capacitor Bypassing gotta do with increasing the Reservoir Capacitance??

Nothing. I didn't say it did. Pay attention.
Two separate instances. Phono preamp had the capacitor bypass bank (total capacitor value not a huge amount). DIY power amp had the large value capacitance.

DIY power amp had the large value capacitance. More reason not to Bypass. I personally do not think there is need for it these days.. 4T Slit Foils are about as good as good with PSU

You're really not playing attention, André.
I never said the high value caps were bypassed.
And how common are Slit-Foils?

Unfortunately some of the big Tandberg speakers used that nasty Philips AD-0160 tweeter (as did some B&O's and SL series Goodmans). Crude brash thing!

I like the look of them and reckon I’d probably like the sound. One I’d like to try someday.

Goes without saying, but why you say that in this instance Shane mi owd cocker? I have nothing against those mordaunt short drivers. But they don't belong in that particular speaker! The seller should try and source the original drivers!! S.

The Bottom unit aint a speaker its an ABR. Mate you ever compared a Dalesford unit against the Mordaunt short? I can promise you they will sound better. As it stands for keeping things original i agree.

No, I haven't compared. But I'm a believer in keeping things original. I don't condone to modifying.

No harm has come to the speaker Cabinet, Not disfigured.. The unit is the same pattern basket as the original. If someone wants to source the original its no sweat. Disfiguration is what i cannot abide as in Physical chopping up which is none reversable..
You'll not be my friend then cos my speaker will have White top panels & Black grill sockets, The originals were Wood & Brown Socks.. Original Elcap Bi-Polar caps are gone for Mundorf 'M-Ecaps' & 'M Resist Supreme' Power resistors..The Original Fuses in the X-Over have been bypassed.

I remember them. Yes, the price is nuts. One of the best systems i ever had was A&R Cambridge 'A60AP'/'SA60X' with 'ARC101' X over board & ofc '101' Speakers. Active system. I think i put pics of them up at AOS at some point.. The '101' do sound great with the standard Passive X Over pods fitted
