I've seen their elder bothers fetching stupid high money. These little boxes also have re-sale value potential too.

I figured they would be an easy sell. I doUntil I’d keep them but I would be interested in winning just to hear them and them sell on.

These look to be 'my' era ATC's post 1993 amp update and pre the SL bass units which re-aligned them back to stark sounding monitors. Played in spirited fashion I'd suggest they'd eat alive the bling stuff mentioned elsewhere here. Maybe too brutish for some tastes though and now I'm endowed/lumbered with all these amps, I'd be looking elsewhere today I suspect. With a proper uncoloured source and preamp able to drive several metres of cables, they do string quartets very well as well as metal as loud as the bass unit will stand...

Aren’t you tempted to move a few bits on to pay for their return? You’ve mentioned their loss many times over the years, so having them back may give you something you seek. I’d probably grab them first and then work out how to make back the cash by offloading some of the stuff I had sitting round. They always look well built and I do t think the asking price is bad. You might get them fir a good bit less than the start price too.

Impulse H7. You don’t see them too often. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/impulse-H7-speakers/263784551179?hash=item3d6ac8d30b:g:J9AAAOSw6QpbNQJEI was tempted at that price, but they would only sit for a while. What are they like? Well I quite liked them. They aren’t greatly efficient and that are said to have a bit of a suckout in the mids. They do have a bit of an odd tonal balance but they have upsides. They sound bigger than their small size, they do play loud despite the small bass unit, they are easy to site and sound very good near side walls. Very nice proportions too. Don’t be fooled by the metal tweeter either. It’s a very nicely voiced speaker with lots of top end clarity and sparkle yet no hardness. At the price they are a giveaway. H6 are much better though.

The ATC's could never return (size, huge weight and things have moved on a bit) and flogging stuff off isn't going to ever put the money into a 'HiFi' fund. I owned them, loved them dearly, traded them for a different life and after twenty two years am currently in crisis. Whatever will be, will be, but I very much doubt ATC's will play a part in it again and I have to accept that. I had a pair of small SCM20ASL Pros (six grand now - mine were in original cast cabinets) and they weren't the same at all (stunt bass - thumpity thump) and I was glad to be shot of them - the current ones are almost totally changed...

If it’s any consolation, I’ve gone back to things I missed on hundreds of occasions. Rarely if ever have they been as good to own a second time around. There is the odd exception like the Campion, but I still think my first one was “off” in some way. I was puzzled because Gromit recommended it and we often like the same kit. I just couldn’t hear anything special about my first one, but something nagged at me to try another. I’m glad I did but if I ever want a big room system again, I will have to change. If not, I reckon it will stay put.

Should call it the trough-less Rock! It looks bloody disabled without the trough.

I’m not sure how you’d value one without a trough. It’s very hard to replace it. They do still sound viable IMO without the trough. More open and free, but less controlled. I’d advise anyone to see a Rock, playing in the flesh before committing. The platters are “variable” in construction. They can wobble from side to side and even up and down. Given the tiny signals involved, I think that’s a really big deal. Mains driven, that aren’t as quiet or pitch stable as they should be. If you get a one with a flat and even platter and a player supply, they can still be good. It just pays to take time to get a good one. I’d take one with a Merlin or Anex PSU and a decent platter, but no trough, over a mains driven deck with wobbly platter and a trough.

I keep,an eye out for Lavardin amd I had seen that one, it’s a bit expensive for me right now but I hope to try one someday. They look lovely inside and out and have a really good rep.

Some might suggest the styling was 'borrowed' from Apogee.
