I bagged a Sony CDP-S1 for £36. Is that a bargain ? I’ve seen them fetch £100 plus so I’d say it is a bargain. You’d probably pay more for an Arcam Alpha 5, but in stock form they aren’t good. You’d likely get much more from it, but LesW doesn’t think it’s as good as a baby Naim when tweaked so you’re probs better off with the Sony. Yay, a bargain after all. I was hoping i might be the only one interested and get it for £25. But there was one other bidder who obviously set their highest bid as £35. Alpha 5 ? Dull, dull dull. I have four cdp's now. Highlymodified CD3.5, untouched CD3.5, Cambridge Audio CD5 and this Sony when it arrives. Thats not too bad is it ? Or am i now part of the hifi OCD club ?

I’ve just bought my son a new drum kit so the kitty is a bit spartan... a grand for those 2 is cheap for an end game setup which it would be with the right speakers.

Already gone but I’d live to know what it went for. I may have been tempted because I really rate them. Went for £320 it will be here on 23rd of this month. A mate of mine bought it and he wants a bake off with the Krell Madman lol

I had mk2.

I’m curious about your logo, which I really like btw. I saw the details on AoS, but not the origins. It looks like a Kabbalistic symbol, but I don’t recognise it.

I'll let him know he has a buyer waiting lol. I'm looking forward to giving it a thorough listen. The logo was designed by a guy called Rob. He wanted a BigBottle phonostage pcb so I swapped him for a logo. The circles are representative of how things have come together. The phonostage was a group effort. The outer circles (Firebottle, Jean-Paul, Andy, Steve, Angus) represent that as they all link to the middle (me) I said from the off that I am only the connector of people who know more than me and I wanted the logo to represent that.

It’s cool as hell, I love sacred geometry and kabbalistic symbols and yours looks like a lost and rediscovered one. It has “tree of life” or the star symbols written all over it,

Well i got my Sony CDP-S1 today. Can't plug the bugger in though as it has a captive lead with 2 prong plug on it.
I will have to cut this plug off and put a normal 3 pin jobbie on. Unless some one knows of a work around ?

A Noel Keywood favourite iirc... Ah, the Baron of bland himself. He was still a very useful reviewer fir me because I could pretty much rule out anything he loved.

Cheers Andrew. Couldn't find a travel adaptor and did not want to chop it off if i had to send it back for any reason.
I put a screw driver in the mains extension socket earth pin receiver to open up the live and neutral. The 2 pin socket just goes straight in. I then plugged the extension in and turned it on. Unit powers up and reads a disc. It plays track one as well - so far so good. I can't listen to it just yet though due to the diy complexity (chaos) of my main system. I need to hook it up to my AP20 when the wife is not looking.

Just had a brain wave. Off to my sound proof drum room now where i am gonna plug it in to the PA that resides in there. That'll be enough to ascertain if it work properly or not. Gonna crank it right up and rock my socks off to some Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Gonna crank it right up and rock my socks off to some Mahavishnu Orchestra. Thoroughly tested and it works flawlessly. I am impressed with the sonics so can't wait to have a proper listen. There is a stupid AC out connector on the back of the unit to supply power to the tuner in the stack system.

A Noel Keywood favourite iirc... I thought it was the Sextet that he was really keen on?
I used to quite enjoy his speaker reviews, at least they were not just full of praise, if he heard something he didn't like he said so.

Got quite a neat solid headshell for £21: ebay.co.uk/itm/292602450427On one of these links there was a bloke in the US offering cartridge re-tipping with aluminium shank an elliptical stylus for about £70, but I can't find him now. It was the Sextets Noel K was a fan of.
