Thanks Jamie. Appreciate that. good news,he does boron with a microridge stylus,i'll be going for that i think. Ah ok, so he is buying them in preassembled. Thats a shame. I think we need a group begging letter to Killian!

I’m ok with that as my cantilever is toast, if I were in your shoes I’d start saving and when the time comes send it back to ortofon.

I used NWA to sort out my DL103M (more a DL110) with an FGS and new cantilever - better than the original cart in what it now digs out of those grooves but doesn't look the best.

here's what he offers on ebay.

Approaching £2.2K to re-do the Ti, blimmin'eck. but you are getting a brand new assembly installed in the old body,i took my kontrapunkt b aoart when i had it,the coils which the cantilever attaches too are housed in a small metal box which inturn is connected by fly wires to the back cartridge body lead tags, the whole assembly is held in the correct postion when you press the sides back together again. quite simple and ingenious .

Despite his eBay listing Needlestein has just quoted me $850 (+import/VAT) to fit an FGS on a boron cantilever to a Kb - on account of '$200 extra because these Ortofons are so difficult to get into'. Given some other responses from him to various queries he won't be on my list of potential cartridge repairers.

hmm,he never mentioned any of that to me. the way things are going its looking like doing 'a group send of to killian and 1 of us flys there and collects them all' would be a cheaper option, actually that might be a goer!

Thats not a terrible idea. The customs thing is actually really simple. When using UPS, you mark the package as "for repair". He doesn't get whacked with fees then. On the way back via UPS, if he marks it as "repaired" or whatever the option says, we only get whacked for fees on the repair. Ive done a few BB3 mods like this for guys in the States and the EU and it's never been an issue. It became an issue when a guy marked his BB3 as a sale and I had to pay £200 odd to get it here. If that happens to Killian, he does what I did.....make the fella pay for the mistake. Simple.

where is this Killian bloke located? So he operates as Holistic Audio in north Netherlands ((think it’s near Oostwold) Have pondered the same myself, as he Vienna-fied my Kontrapunkt (via Angus). What to do when I wear it out? Start saving now .. which given my spending habits is unlikely. Ferry from Hull … take in a holiday via Killian? He’s a long way from Amsterdam

where is this Killian bloke located? Holland you can nip over there - it's only a 40 minute flight. Last time I went I barely had time to finish my free whiskey drink before we were landing. He can't be that far from Amsterdam it's not a big country, suppose it would mean renting a car too. Not that much if costs split multiple ways.

Ok.....that's odd when i asked about the different quote, he mentioned as angus said that the KB type bodys are hard to get into and theres a $200 dollar extra charge for that,so that price makes it near to the official ortofon repair price for my bronze all be it a better cantilever will be fitted.

£465 for a new assembly is not bad at all. As long as that's what you get.

if you use needlestein you are looking at $775 dollors roughly, thats a new boron cantilever and a FGS diamond. as angus said factor in customs charges etc and its a far cry from $475 originally quoted.

I still have a old KB body with snapped stylus. Considered over the years sending back to Ortofon and getting the body etc replaced. Now 1000 Euros for this. Still might do it as you are getting far more than a replacement stylus and cantilever but I never have the spare money!

another possible option, i have just heard back from van den Hul who has said they can replace the cantilever and diamond. i have to contact their uk dealer and see whats what.

I really get why stylus life on the good cartridges we use is a real consideration. I never used to think about it, but do so more now, since the FGS on the CB. I enjoy it so much that I dont like thinking about when 'that time' comes. Luckily I've probs 300-400 hrs, if that on mine.
I now utilise the cdp side loads more and thankfully loving that too via the PD-91.
