Well got to the end of the thread and there is quite a bit to read . This is mainly dealing with the LB used in to the Gustard DAC . Listed another cable that was offered up as a good 50 Ohm option but seems to be quite hard to find in the UK . Sent an e-mail to the listed UK Dealer just to see if either he would consider direct supply or has a UK customer he can link me to . Sadly as I am not a business and do not want large quantities these things are often a dead end , but if you do not ask then you do not get . While the thread is 16 pages long it is worth reading or even skimming through as there is lots of stuff which seems to chime very closely with what we are hearing as well . Harmonic Technology Digital Copper III Harmonic Technology Digital Copper III Now I'm Interested Me too . . . . especially if it can be made with an SMA connector to BNC . . . .

I'm going to make an observation here, the HT cable I find not so linear and a wee bit top heavy in a well balanced system, these cables are very system dependant imho
They are also not designed for sma termination at all.

I have looked around and had a chat with this company and they assure me there is only one TFlex 405 cable made and that they use it . They are able to make up make up a cable under there Custom assembly page which for a 1 Meter BNC to BNC would be £76.55 plus VAT (and I presume shipping) If this is of interest and we would like a few cables I could ask them if they will give some discount for multiple cables . There are also lots of other connectors which may be needed by others but it is BNC only for me . TFlex-405 Cable Assembly - Create Your Own - McGill Microwave Systems Tony not sure how we can tell if this is the same cable you are talking about as I can not find any link or detail about the US supplier you mentioned . I am told this is a well known and used cable all made by one cable mfg . But confused if this is not the same as what you are talking about .
Just did a quick run through and this would come out as £99 for a 1 metre cable with shipping and VAT .

Andrew
I have over 12 examples of TFlex 405 all with the same specification, the best place I used to purchase them has gone under, however these guys are the real deal as well. lets just say not all thats labelled T flex 405 is actually T flex 405, always use stainless crimps imho

Tony I just so confused by this the company I contacted is a proper company supplying and constructing for the microwave industry and I am just shocked that they would be able to state one thing but be supplying another . But I am very new to this area so at a loss unless TFlex 405 is a standard and not a brand and there are lots of cable that is made to this standard but some are better than others . Anyway contacted the company you advised and completed a Cable Quote Request form and will see what comes from that which I will share with everyone here .

Having looked a bit more in to this the company I linked to are the official UK Dealer / Supplier for Times Microwave Systems which is the US cable maker of this product . I have checked and the company Tony has advised are also supplied by Times Microwave Systems so surely the cable from both will be the same the only difference being that one is based in UK the other in the US and will have much higher shopping costs plus VAT to pay . The Sales Manager Liam has already said that if we order multiple cables then he will be able to offer a reduced price so I am leaning towards this option of I decide to give this a try .

Just to say I ordered the same cable as Stevew linked to as for the price it was worth a try . This is very thick and not very flexible but have to say it not only works but sounds better than the cheap black cable Tony tested for me . I have decided to call quite on this now and will wait until someone either finds a definitive reasonable cost replacement or this cable develops a fault . I would certainly say give this cable a try it sounds great to me and is copper rather than silver plated .

With Oli’s help, and build skills, I have added one of the clocks, Alan originally posted, to my Mutec. All I can say is wow! But more of that later! As others have found, the set up of the clock is not always straight forward, although I confidently went about it with the aid of Tony’s set up guide. What ever I did the external clock would not lock consistently with the Mutec. Everything set correctly and the external lock led illuminated, with it only to drop out after 1 minute. I still had sound but something was not correct. The external blue LED was off and Internal blue LED flashing. As always, Oli was brilliant, and suggested it may be a faulty clock board or cable, so sent me replacements, which I fitted but no improvement! What could the problem be? I had the cable fitted to the sine output. After a lot of head scratching he suggested using TTL, if only I had re-read this post I would have thought of that, well maybe!! Switched cable to TTL and sound is restored. Seems strange that only the TTL output is being recognised by my Mutec, wonder if anyone has any suggestions. Also might it be best to change the jumper on my Mutec, to the 50ohm setting? I’ll just give it a try but wonder what others have to say on it. So, to the sound. Just so much more of it. I have a pretty resolving system and am just loving the extra micro details making instruments sound even more realistic. The detailed, wide soundstage just becomes wider with instruments existing more precisely within it. Listening to live recordings the detail emerging is at another level. A fantastic addition to my system. Thanks for starting this thread firebottle

Pete this is just my view so feel free to ignore it . No idea why the Mutec failed to recognise the clock and would only work on TTL . Yes switching to 50 ohm input and using a 50 ohm through terminator makes a difference and improves the sound . The BNC clock cable you use also makes a difference . Not sure what you are using currently but it needs to be a 50 ohm cable . Tony has suggested a TF cable earlier in this thread and Oli was going to get a few together and order a job lot to see if we could get the cost down . I have already said to Oli that I would add one perhaps you could do the same .

I am pretty sure the Sine worked on mine, but in truth made no difference. Just happy it's now up and running!

I did plan on doing this, but have since decided to make a wholesale change to the way digital works in my house, so that cable may no longer be necessary for my system. Happy to arrange a group buy though.

I have taken the Mutec and clock out of the chain this evening to put some sorbothane feet onto the Mutec. I am staggered by the difference in sound!! I guess I should be but…!
The Aria and Aqvox are sounding sublime but where is the detail in the soundstage? Where is the precision of musicians? Where is the width, depth and height of presentation?
Listening more, fantastic as it is, everything is blended together, making a beautiful image but I am missing the detail as if I have forgotten to put on my glasses before gazing.
Always good to swap out something every now and then to hear what something is really doing.
Feet are fitted and it is going back in!!

Pete can I ask what feet you used for the Mutec as I have been pondering replacing the ones on my Mutec which I am less than impressed with .

Pete can I ask what feet you used for the Mutec as I have been pondering replacing the ones on my Mutec which I am less than impressed with . I looked for some small sorbothane ones, I found these, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302119319088the size is perfect for attaching to the original feet, if you remove the rubber o ring first. alternatively I guess you could remove the whole foot and stick the hemisphere on. Downside with the feet I sourced was they were not self adhesive so I had to go to the garage and get some glue... not a big problem in the scale of things!!

Someone on another site mentioned that they were using there LB Clock attached to a DDC using a BNC Male to BNC Male extender with no cable connected just direct . I have a 50 Ohm through connector so using a BNC extended by could connections directly between my LB and Mutec . As five extenders only cost £5 delivered I am going to give this a go the best wire is no wire at all and the next best is as short a wire as possible so in theory at least this should work . As it is a cheap tweak I feel compelled to give it a try later today .

Okay extenders arrived and after LPSU shuffled around the shelves able to direct connect the LB . First comment is that after powering up again music played straight away . Briefest of listens is that it sounded fine and was not a huge drop from what it sounded with the bnc cable in place . However I know that inserting anything in the chain needs to burn in and settle down . So no more listening today just leaving the Cascade burn in track playing today and overnight and then have a listen tomorrow and make any comments then .
