It would be great to have a vintage amp and speakers but it's a minefield especially for a noob like me don't let your inexperience become a barrier to great VFM sound. After all you have the experience of us lot behind you, and Alan the electronics guru to check over/fettle your vintage purchase, so you have many years of usage ahead of you.

They are a lovely looking speaker in that premium real Oak veneer finish - but also, as a few of us have pointed out, they are importantly a genuinely lovely sounding hifidelity speaker and often regarded as a proper bargain - loved and very popular back in the day and still a great speaker now, even more so at the daft pocket money I've seen them go for. Those ones are particularly nice and he's taking offers..... www.gramophone.co.uk/features/article/review-mission-752-freedom-loudspeaker

The 753's were the other popular Mission floorstander at that time too, they kind of competed in terms of some liking/choosing one or the other.
I didnt like the multi speaker thing, they looked more disco to me and gave the impression they could be driven to silly levels, truth is they weren't that type of speaker.
The 753, like the 752 was a good speaker from what I know, popular and well liked too.
Once I had my first 752 Freedoms, on recommendation from a guy I worked with, I had no desire to hear the 753 or anything else to be honest, I was just well chuffed with them and for the £150 I'd paid at the time, even more so, they sounded great to my ears, musical, punchy, detailed, balanced, and imaging was A1.
Btw- The first/original 752 and 753 had a metal dome tweeter which sat above the mid-bass driver.
I tried the original 752 and found that metal dome tweeter too bright and very unnaturally warm, still that Aerogel mid-bass driver, excellent.
The Freedoms, were/are the revised version, where the metal dome tweeter was replaced with a silk soft dome tweeter, which sounded much more calmer and natural, and sits under/below the mid-bass driver.

Are these as he says legendary Not at all. Those Mission speakers are not great and the model Rob mentioned sounded very veiled when a pair came here vs my Mission 700. Not all mission speakers are great, but some are very good. I wouldn't personally touch these models.

I had Technics SU VX800 with my 752 Freedom's, for years and some Sansui's and they sounded detailed and balanced, but I know what you mean if you paired them with an amp with a very even / flat presentation. They have a slightly in the box sound, compared to the much brighter original, which I'd describe as sounding more the other way as in out of the box. 'veiled' would not put me off recommending the 752 Freedom, having lived with them for a good time, with and with out equalizer, tone controls and they were good.

Are these as he says legendary I believe the 752 freedoms will suit your room better than 753s. The 753s will likely be way too bassy in a smaller room.

Not all mission speakers are great, but some are very good. I wouldn't personally touch these models. I listened to them closely, and I can't recall if it was using the Krell or the first 686 with SMPS in to be honest, but it could have been that one. Regardless, I don't do amps that can't double as arc welders...you know this 😂 It was a beefy amp anyway. Angus bought his minty pair up with him. In my opinion they were boxy, music stuck to the speaker like glue and it was all very veiled. Intrusively so. When we put Mordaunt Short Performance 880 back in, even though we drowned in bass, there was a massive uptake in transparency. I can't recommend the 753 because I thought they were pretty poor to be honest. The 752 may be better, but those ones I linked to will be better again. They are greatly underappreciated and undervalued in the HiFi world. Mission made next to nothing on them, seriously....the driver material was so exoentat the time that they nearly bankrupted Mission due to how many they sold. There is a big writeup on the original 770 somewhere and the then owner of Mission says that getting the drivers made very nearly put them out of business.

Thank you my learned brother Olster I am very aware of the 737r -r for Renaissance and know them to be a well regarded speaker. If I remember they were along the series of similar Mission offerings, the 770 and 780 Argonauts I think they were - good speakers.

I am not the only one here with a great amount of listening experience. I just share what i learned and thats up to anyone if they take it on board

So are there any bookshelf speakers i can look at ? Yes........ 😂😂😂 Q Acoustics 3010, 3020, Concept 20. All are sensible prices, more so used, and great performance for the money.

So are there any bookshelf speakers i can look at ? My own actual choice for a system with a financial budget like yours are a refurbished pair of B&O CX100. As well as my main system (with speakers that cost me £13k - not showing off, just saying) I also have a 2nd system about 75 miles away. I'm almost as fussy about the sound of my 2nd system as I am about the sound of my main system. It has to sound very good. I don't feel short changed with the B&O speakers - they have a clarity and presence which is more than a bit surprising. I think their well braced aluminium cabinet has a lot to do with shifting nasty resonances away from the critical midrange. Anyhow, they are often available on ebay for £200-300. That's my choice. Here's the system ... The room is the other way around to yours, wide rather than long, but I'm sure the little B&Os would work well. I've tried quite a lot of speakers in that system including KEF R500 floorstanders, Usher X719 big stand mounts, Magneplanar 1.6qr panel speakers. Quite a few others, usually costing more than the B&O. The B&O are staying. You might also notice a small black box under the table - a Jamo SUB200 subwoofer. It's not essential, but nice to have. Cost me £75 on ebay.

And if I were you, in your rather interestingly different room, I'd definitely get an amplifier with tone controls.

Can anyone suggest were to place the acoustic tiles I have as were they are now I don't think there doing much I put some at the top of the apex as it's a bit of a corner angle I was just wondering if I should put a few in line with the first 2 sets of wall panels at the first reflection points but on the sloped celling any ideas 💡 ?

Have you had a listen to these ?as the 3030i are on my shortlist Have had the 2010s & 3020s regular & i version and was very very impressed with them. Didn't mention the 30i as thought they might be a bit big for your space but have heard them and they're bloody good as are the C20. As to additional sound manipulation, have you tried getting some egg trays (painted) and adding them either on their own or foam backed? A friend of mine got a book of carpet samples (the square stacks) from a carpet shop and made strings of 3 or 4 by pinning together at their corners and hanging them from a plastic curtain rail (easily adjustable) and various cup hooks.

So I'm thinking egg trays in the apex flat bit then put my tiles on the sloped celling 🤔 im gonna get the laser pointer and mirror out later Those q acoustics look very nice I think I'll stick with bookshelf I actually mocked up the size of the missions and they would just look to big I think
