So that could indicate that people who dislike the sound of Control Ones have shitty room acoustics? Actually, did the Control Ones have their sub with them?

It’s bizarre how much people will spend on electronics and foo rather than a bit of room treatment which would be far far more effective

True but you've got the WAF to consider. Even if it is just a simple thing like putting some thick curtains on a window to absorb HF, if she's got her heart set on blinds then you're knackered.

Compared to a stack of boxes and cables everywhere it must be close....

Well I'm assuming they've been allowed to get that far. If they're not allowed to have kit then there's not much point in the room treatment.

Most have another living room which is kept exactly how the mrs wants it I suspect. Or there is no mrs. Mind you, you get blokes these days who don't want all the 'boxes and wires' either. I can't really understand that.

Yep, imagine it was your bathroom or something else. 12 months in a state of flux is unacceptable. I know the guy was gonna fit it in around work but not even a whisper on how he's progressing suggests I'd be getting those drivers back ASAP and looking elsewhere. I have a guy close to my house who could probably help.

Well in way of explanation -
I bought the Tannoy drivers and crossovers before I had the Krell/DCB1/JM Lab combo. I was then so happy with that - exactly the sound I have always been chasing - I was not that bothered about the Tannoys being done.
It was agreed that due to the very low price (a grand) I was being charged for the cab build, that it would not be a rush job. Note that price includes the finish (high gloss candy orange).
I have not paid any money up front. When they are done and delivered I then have to fork out the thousand quid. Since I'm not unhappy with what I've got right now I'm not in any hurry to have them finished and then have to pony up the dough.
On the flip side the drivers and xovers owe me £750 so if no progress has been made to date I could just get them back and sell them. Also I do quite fancy having a pair of Tannoy Ardens just for the sake of it if nothing else. So, yeah, I need to chase it up.

Spoke to my EE last night. He's coming over next week to take a look at the KSA50S. He says he soaked it for hours and it was fine. All a bit weird.
In the meantime the KSA100 Mk2 has been growing on me a lot. I've adapted to its slightly softer tone compared to the 50S. It's very...listenable. It also seems to be the only solid state amp I've ever owned that gets better after warming up for 20 minutes or so. I know a lot of people say this about amps but then people say a lot of stuff that's bollocks. But it does seem to get an 'ease' about it after a bit of time that's not there right after switch-on.
It does sound quite a lot like that most rare of things - a good valve amp.

I’d have one back in a heartbeat.

Do you remember what pre-amp you used with it?

I'll say one thig about this 100 though - it doesn't care if you crank it! The 50S had a sort of limit to it but this doesn't. I think the speakers would give out first. It actually gets scary but still stays smooth and controlled.
Mind you I don't often crank it these days but some music is designed to be listened to at serious volume.

Yeah I used a few. ARC LS1 and LS3, Perreaux SM3, Linn LK1 and MF MXL. Krell seem to “bend” preamps to their will. Their sound still comes through whatever you use.

My mate also loves the KSA50 mk1 and he’s had a few Krells. His early Levinson monos were better still, according to him but I never got to hear them.
He was up at Jez’s recently and he was servicing a KSA50 mk1. “Best amp ever made” Jez apparently said. All I can say is that mine was special in a way no other amp has been.

ARC does seem to be the 'traditional' partner. Outside my pay grade though! I tried a few - NVA P90SA, XTZ and DCB1 with the 50S and there was a lot of difference. More than enough to care about. Barry on AoS has a Mark Levinson pre that is amazing. One of the old ones. Would love to try that. I think it would be perfect with the 100 but maybe too much with the more clinical 50S. The DCB1 is so perfect with the 50S it's frightening. I wish I knew why all this was.

Heard the ML pre power (526 with 534 I think) through JBL 4365 at a show - it was everything I could ever want. So I can't agree the modern ML are crap. Those speakers would easily show them up if they were.

SP8 and SP10 are nice though.

Very attractive system. I like the use of vinyl as acoustic treatment and the mirror behind your deck looks class,

I'm trying to keep my system as simple as possible nowadays. I don't want to buy music because of how it sounds on my system but because of how it sounds if that makes any sense. Though this system isn't the most sublime it just plays any record I put on it well obviously some sound better than others because of the mastering or the pressing but I can play an old Rocksteady 7" on Crab or Trojan and it sounds really enjoyable and equally it will still showcase the excellent mastering and pressing on a Music Matters, Blue Note reissue.

Very nice. Where's the pitch slider ? The previous owner had the slider and the light removed and then had the gaps filled and the plinth refinished. I bought it exactly as is I've just added an Achromat and a clamp.
