What amp will you be driving them with Macca ? Krell KSA50S - it's only rated at 50W into 8 ohm so it's not overkill. Nice, what are those lovely big boys rated at ?

Congrats in biting the bullet, they look like the kind of speaker you've had wet dreams over, and I'll bet the neighbours will be pleased when you tell them.

Me and Jason have had a bit of a chat, and the upshot is that he's going to knock up some of these for me: Only without the pin stripes. New speaker day is a bit of a way off yet as there's a waiting list a bit like when you order an Aston. Nice, looks like a Troels take on my big Hecos. 15" with 8" mid?, not as wide but probably deeper (Hecos = 770x330) + 2x front as opposed to 3x bottom firing ports. If my speakers are anything to go by then they'll do the job nicely.

I suppose it was mad to get them too, but the good kind of mad. I like that sense of easy reproduction you only seem to get with giant speakers.

Yes, so glad I bit the bullet and juggled the finances to get them. As you say a real sense of ease, can't wait to sell my kennel and move to a place with a bigger room (currently 12x14) where they can breath better. Currently hoping to snag a place with a 20x14 room, if not then will get someone to wave hammers so I can get a minimum of 20x13. That's the only pig with these Hecos, it makes house hunting more difficult as besides wanting a detached Bungalow,I have to make sure I can achieve the minimum room size I want without too much expense.

Maybe don't limit yourself to a bungalow? As long as there's two reception rooms downstairs you don't need to use the upstairs - except for storing unused equipment and boxes IME acoustically good rooms start at 18' x 12' - with a solid floor and as high a ceiling as possible. Should be any enthusiast's prime house-buying/renting consideration - after cost and location.

Get what you mean but to my mind houses complicate things when opening out rooms. Mate of mine did it and needed engineers report + RSJ cost was £4.5k. This was pre Covid, prices for materials etc have gone up so circa £6k now. No such problems with bungalows so cost of any work is reduced, hence my preference, they're also cheaper to buy which means more play money once things sorted.

I thought bungalows were usually more expensive? I've not bought a house since 1998 so I'm out of touch I suppose. Mine was knocked through by the previous owner back in '73 when it probably cost ten bob to do.

Had a bit of a late session last night which I don't usually do.
Went down the shop and noticed they had those pint cans of wife beater on special offer, out of date.
Rarely drink at all anymore so one can smashes me.
I forgot what a massive upgrade alcohol is. I mean you can go from a Topping to a full DCS stack but one can of beater for 99p blows that into the weeds.

No work tomorrow so thought I'd go for another £1 upgrade.
Got to the shop and...none left! Cheap booze doesn't hang around long in this town.
So had to pay full price, £2

Oli it gained this nickname after series of gritty fly on the wall documentaries dealing with council house families and the inevitable abusive partner was always filmed with a can of Stella , hence Wife Beater Ale .

Ohh… wow. I used to have a customer, a rather large technical manager for a quarrying company. If I rang him late afternoon, I’d often get the response “ Can’t talk right now, I’m with Aunty Stella”.

Okay try this one on for size.
Thought over the past few weeks my system not sounding as good as previously. Not bad, just not as good.
Some things I listened to did not have the bass or 'body' to them that I recalled them having.
I thought I just must be listening at lower levels than before but cranking the volume made no difference. Yeah it got louder but still lack of body.
The other day was listening after getting back from work and it occurred to me that when I'd gone down to London to see ZZ Top I had, as is my wont if I'm going to be away for the night, switched everything except the 'fridge off at the wall.
The pre-amp always sits in stand by and I twigged that it might lose my settings if switched off at the wall. So I checked the attenuation level on the digital input and sure enough it had returned to the factory setting of -10dB.
Set it back to the -9.5dB that I'd previously worked out was optimal for my system. Problem solved!
Ironically it had also lost my EQ setting so although I had the PEQ switched on, it was set flat. I hadn't noticed that. Although maybe that's because of the other issue.

And what effect would that have had?

"Ironically it had also lost my EQ setting so although I had the PEQ switched on, it was set flat." And what effect would that have had? With it set flat doesn't make any difference if it's switched on or off. Point was I was listening without my little 'BBC dip' that I'd dialled in, and didn't notice. But I did notice the digital input was more attenuated. Eventually.
