Ouch, better get rid, I'll give you £5000 for it be safer for you in the long run 😉😂 A generous offer, but you can build one for less.

I see someone else did not realise that the soft start board had changed size. I still prefer my solution though, as it looks neater from the outside.

Spoils the back panel with those bolt heads in the Name.

Can't say it would bother me any. Didn't even notice until it was pointed out and how often do you admire the back panel of your equipment anyway?

No, but I would know it was there.... It’s just ironic that the catchphrase is “engineering done right” and we both got caught out with a change of board size.
It does not change the fact that it is a great amp though.

Yes. It is a great amp. It does everything I need, but I feel it may lead to a new pre once I have built my BB3.

No idea. Needs to be relatively cheap, and preferably DIY. Maybe another bit of Neurochrome...

One question about the Neurochrome amp being sold, he has it as a '86' giving out 200w @ 8 Ohm, when looking on the website it says 70w, only the '686' giving 200w?

It’s a 686. The power output will depend on what the output voltage of the transformer is though. I went for a safe build, which generates less heat, but still plenty of power.

I am going to wire the internals with OCC copper cable. If your 686 boards come with connectors for the signal, take them off and solder to the PCB or better still, ask Tom not to fit them at all. Getting on with my build... and thinking about input cable (the last remaining purchase). I'm generally a fan of copper and not so much silver-plated copper, though I've only had experience with it a few times. So in screened twisted pair as needed for XLR input it seems HFC mostly carries silver or silver-plated. Neotech NEI-3004 looks good but is out of stock. Other good recommendations?
Has anyone tried different input hookup cabling and has experienced the difference?

I used the NEI-3004,so I am not of much help.

I use some tightly twisted OCC stranded stuff which works just fine. And then just add braided screen and heatshrink? Tom C says Pin 1 needs to be grounded to the board with a screen for best shielding (as well as to chassis).

NEI-3002 might even be an option though is 3x the price and includes both copper and silver plated copper. Or I could go with Belden 8402 or Neotech NEMOI-5220 but they don't seem ideal either and the 5220 looks like it'd be a pain to strip.
I'll check stock expectancy on NEI-3004. If NEI-3004 is only a week out, I can wait. Otherwise...

You don't want to necessarily connect directly to the chassis for screening.
Use a resistor in line with the connection to chassis, anything between 100 ohms and 1k, then you won't create any earth loops if you have a fully grounded pre or phono stage.
