Getting closer. ISS and power switch wired up in the little time I had this morning. Power on check and voltage readings on the Power 686 checked, and all is as it should be. I have been trying to keep it tidy as I go. I am pleased so far with my first "DIY" build. Macca will be pleased to know that the power on LED is Blue. That looks tidy!

It does look tidy. But research shows that using a blue LED will make it sound thin and bright. Orange if you want warm and organic. I give you a week before you swap it out for the proper colour

That is because it is still missing half the cables....

It does not work as expected.... Time to troubleshoot why. It is really quiet. I suspected the Gaurdian 686s, so I removed those, and it makes no difference.

Don't worry, if you have the right voltages in all the right places and it's making sound then there's only a few things.
1. Check the input wiring, probably easiest if you just wire the rca up first time round. Rca centre pin to positive input, rca gnd to input negative and to input gnd. I'd use three wires from the rca lead, makes life easier than jumping.
2. Running it just off the rca will half the output volume as it halves the voltage swing at the input.
3. Remove the output protection to make sure its not that, just wire in a crap speaker.
My money is on it being input wiring.

Looking at the second.

Output protection has been removed. I have one channel working ok. Looking at the second. Oh, so maybe the speaker protection isn't right? I removed the Guardian 686s to help with trouble shooting. It made no difference. I was a connection somewhere. I have re-done them all and we are in business. No magic smoke has escaped..... Music has started coming out from the speakers. I will fit the Guardians back in to the circuit tomorrow.

I have a feeling it is going to be a late night....
Sounds awesome, as people who already own these know. I need to reposition the feet at the rear. I forgot how big this case was, until I put it in the rack. It’s massive!

It takes some convincing to get people to take these on so well done!

I am loving this amp. It does exactly what the Modulus -86 did, but more of it. To coin some cheesy hi-foo speak, it is like someone has lifted a veil off the speakers, or someone has cleaned the window.
It has got great grip on the speakers, and full credit to the dealer, they certainly like a few more watts than I was originally giving them. My daughter (thanks for the missing word correction Alan) appreciated the extra power on the theme songs from Frozen and Frozen 2, so money well spent in my book.

The 686 is what I recently described as "unobstructed listening" You'll get more from it as it runs in. Really pleased it's up and running.

The bass power is something else. I used to run a small sub for low level listening. It does not need to be turned on now.

Congrats and well done mate. Lovely tidy job. You’d never know it was a first bash.
I hope I can do mine the same justice. I ordered the last parts yesterday so hopefully within a couple of weeks I will be starting my own journey.

There's so much value in the DIY audio market. This is a stunning amp bigbird and I am sure you are gonna love it.

Guardian 686s are now in the circuit. A credit to Tom, is that you would be hard pushed to know it.
I declare this build complete....
