Haha thanks matey that’s helpful.
And yes Oliver I’m kacking my pants as it’s my first build. Tom has written me up a step by step guide and will be there all the way so as long as I get these wires right I will be fine I think.
Thankfully I’ve bought most parts now. Just the traffo to organise this week.
It is a big outlay but a relative bargain in Hifi money

It is my first build as well. Seems like you’re doing a great job so far. I may have to pick your brain at some point .

As long as you get that right i don't think there is much else to get wrong...only making sure it's in phase haha

Tom told me to send him details of the traffo so he can tell me exactly what to put where in the power boards As you say , apart from that it should be fairly simple. And no one won’t be making the same mistake as you did 😂

You can measure the voltage fairly easily to make sure they are connected properly.
If it is wrong, you need to wait 15 to 20 minutes before you change anything, as the capacitors retain their charge for quite a while.

4 x 22000 uF, if I remember correctly.

That's a fair kick if you get it wrong. Most traffos are marked on the label though, so its easy to follow

The transformer is well labelled. But you need to be careful. I wired everything up and put the multimeter in place before I turned the power on. That way there was no need to put my hands inside the case. I could also see the voltage decay to a safe level (0V in my opinion).
Anyway, FedEx came today, but they did not bring the parcel from Canada. I have a feeling I will have to go and fetch it, but their communications is atrocious. I was warned 2 minutes before it was being delivered that I needed to give them a cheque....
If they would have mentioned this the day before.....

Well, today is a good day. I want and got the last Neurochrome bits from FedEx, and the guy was most apologetic, although they still took €18 handling fee, which should not be the case when they were told to use my account, apparently.
My heat sink has also arrived, machined correctly. Now I just need to find some time to put it all together. I don’t like doing things like this bit by bit. I will probably get the boards fitted and do a final check that I have everything, and go for wiring it up, and power on over the weekend

The ISS V2 is a much smaller PCB than the V1. Now I need to look at a mounting solution, to avoid drilling any more holes in the case....
D’oh....

You can see the problem in this photo... I may still flip the amp board on the LH (or RH) side of the photo to have the inputs exactly the same length, but I doubt it will make a big difference.

Just make the input looms the same length on both sides. One side will be longer than necessary but best to have both the same.

I have just cut out a 150 x 90mm mounting plate in black anodised aluminium (from an old PC case that is destined for the bin) to correct the mistake. It should look fine when finished.

Plate is in place. I just need to mount the smaller ISS to it now. Yes, it's not perfect, but I prefer to have the outside looking relatively clean. You won't see this when the lid is on.

Make the inputs as short as required to reach the sockets. Uneven lengths is no issue, there's no 'delay' or anything like that from a few cm difference, whereas floppy loose wire can pick up extra noise.
Its not like you've inverted the main boards and psu boards on one side for perfect symmetry.

I am glad I did the inventory. The missing Molex connectors and contacts for the Power 686 output have been ordered.
I can use the screw terminals if necessary, but I will be happier with the Molex connector.

To try and help others, here is a summary of things to remember when ordering the parts:
The CAD files of the case need to be adjusted for the Mod686 V1.1 hole spacing, the 30mm speaker binding post spacing and the ISS V2.
The mod686 harnesses need to be modified to fit the current version of the Power 686. They are correct at the amplifier end.
The Power 686 molex megafit output connectors do not appear in the BoMs, so will need to be ordered if you want to use them. Don't forget to get the contacts/precrimped cables when you order the plugs.

A little progress tonight, as I had a little time. The ISS is wired up to the IEC inlet, and connected to the transformers. Just the control side to do (power switch and power LED). The wiring has been tidied up a little. All the grounds have been fitted and a bonding check has been performed.
Tomorrow, I will connect the power switch, re-check the power is ok, and then look at wiring up the amp power connections, and the input/output signal cabling. I may even have enough time to power it up, and use it in anger this weekend....

Getting closer. ISS and power switch wired up in the little time I had this morning. Power on check and voltage readings on the Power 686 checked, and all is as it should be. I have been trying to keep it tidy as I go. I am pleased so far with my first "DIY" build. Macca will be pleased to know that the power on LED is Blue.
