While I still have the Orbe, I made another change as recommended by Pete off of the WAM. Replacing the bobbins under the arm pod for slightly larger but also more 'give', the replacements I had supposed to separate the arm from the chassis but Pete thought it could be better so he tried these and gave them glowing reviews so I thought I would try - made the change this evening. Pics of the in place: Pics of the size difference (new on the left): First impressions are pretty positive but early days!

Another mod, this time the feet. Before the feet were directly connected to the lower plinth - now changed to rubber isolation as found in vibrating devices (this was done some time ago) and now added covers (anodised aluminium) which smartens them up no end in my eyes) No spun a record yet with the covers on but without it made an improvement to the SQ. A few pics

Thanks. Just playing a record to see if they change the sonics for better or worse - so far, not worse

Bought some of these for the speakers to see if they would change anything with what I hear as currently using spikes into the carpet (with a concrete floor). Fitted to the speakers this evening. Had a 30 minute listen and the lower registers seemed to be clearer so a good start.

SuperSpikes do a good job - SQ is better to my ears Today I thought I would try my 12 inch wooden arm as I have only used it on the Lenco GL75. Sounds pretty good

It is great value for the SQ it can give. Cost about £160 but I would put the performance at 5 times that if not more!

Picked up the new toy today and up and running. 3 issues. 1. The hole in the plinth does not give me the correct spindle to arm length (about 7 mm out) so will have to cut a larger mounting hole - will make it so I can mount 9inch arms to. 2. The arm cable could do with being longer so I will get some new cable to sort that out - it just about allows me to solder plugs to the end but not ideal 3. Earth hum - solved by connecting a cable to the chassis of the TT and the phono cable. When connected to the earth post the controls on the turntable stopped working - they are touch so when connecting the chassis to the earth stops them from working A few pics with the DL103M fitted to the arm - does sound pretty good. Plenty of tweaking to come

Very nice. Like the look of the wooden arm, I might try one at some stage.

I know your your Orbe is no ugly duckling, but the Denon with that wooden arm is the one for me, pleased you've corrected the mounting distance and it sounds even better, come on, which do you prefer and why?

Can't comment as yet as I need to get new arm cable for the wooden arm and new RCA connectors (terrible hum now - these connectors have been soldered more times than I have had hot dinners!) Looking to order some new stuff today so in the next few days will hopefully have it singing then I can make a judgement call (though I don't know why I have too )
