+1, i have 2 sony plinths and the panzerholz one beats them both. theres just something about panzer that is so right for plinths and armboards. where are you getting the panzer oli for £100? £100 for a plinth sized piece, not a full sheet!

Had another play with getting the 12 inch arm sorted. Reduced the tails and pushed them through a hole in the top of the arm board where I had mounted the connectors. Hum reduced further and the arm performs better as moved the weight at the rear so it was more to the right as noticed the cartridge wasn't very level. Still hum so tried my battery powered MM phono amp and no difference so put it back to the OTP. A pic of the MM phono amp: I think I need to reduce the tails further as something in my room is generating something that the tails are picking up ?? A few pics of the new layout and play a record.

Problem with the the arms you mention is they would struggle to fit on the current Obsidian SP-10 plinth and allow the lid to work. I don't want to change the current plinth as a. I like the looks and b. I have heard SP-10's in other plinths and have not noticed a big difference. Let's see what father Christmas brings this year (just around the corner!!) I didn't want to suggest spending more money, as it's a bit wanker-ish, But..... Sticking that SP10 in a Panzerholz plinth would be my first port of call. The obsidian plinth is a thing of beauty, no doubt, but to get the best from the motor id get shot of the plinth. We did that experiment with the SP10, and the Sony TTS8000. The difference in performance was not subtle. If we can find a way, I'd be happy to do an SP10 comparison so you can hear for yourself before shelling out, but for £100 and a bit of routering....I'd be on it. It would take a pretty big difference in sound quality for me to change the plinth from the obsidian to panzerholz if that tt were mine. All you've got to do now gninnam, get the arm board done in piano black.

I prefer 12" (no innuendo intended). I've two SME's a V5-12 and a 3012 and I just love them. Would take a lot for me to part with them. [br If you are looking for a new arm that is turning performance on its head then look at the SUPATRAC Blackbird. It's a sideways unipivot arm, even DIY versions are excelling.

Followed that thread on the Lenco site. The guy who I bought this arm from has made one of those Supatrac arms and is mightily impressed with it - hence why the one I bought was up for sale. Wanted to dip my toe in the water in the unipivot world - so far, apart from the hum which I think may be more system related, I like what it does on the SP-10.
Who knows where my journey will go to next?

As well as sounding good it looks good too - take the point that Oli makes but the plinth is staying

Tails shortened and re-soldered - hum still there (as I expected) but at reasonable audio levels not massively noticable......
Will have a think and see what could be the culprit.

A bit of a change tonight. Replaced the Puresound A30 valve amp with my Burson Bang - looks so tiny but pulls no punches with SQ and heft!

and if you believed everything you read on forums, the above combination would not work, some are not as clever as they think or simply just go on specs instead of actually listening to the thing. Pleased you are enjoying it.

Yep - The arm and cartridge worked really well on the JVC so I was expecting the same on the SP-10 - and it works very well The amount of detail that it is being pulled out of the grooves is phenomenal so I think I might go for the rewire on the RB300 next to see what it can do

Due to damaging the cantilever on the DL103M I have roped in one of my other spare P77 - sounding pretty good (so far) on the RB300, SP-10 and through the BB3

Not the luckiest of forums at the moment, with you and Lurch, can you get cantilever replaced cost effectively or is it the bin?

Blimey your nearly as bad as me. I've hot 4 setup at the moment. I have 3 more in the garage and God knows how many amps and speakers Plan to have a clear out soon as want to raise funds for a power amp plus I need to order some parts to build a passive pre and still need to re-wire the 12 inch wooden arm which I will do once the weather closes in properly.
