I've had two days working in clinic trying to screen patients away from the NHS. The strategy being not to further stress the NHS with patients who shouldn't be there or not need the care. Interesting times! I have one friend who's a Consultant Foot Surgeon who helped do a spinal decompression!!!!!!!

I've got to go in tomorrow. I'm not doing an essential job so I'm wondering if I'll be breaking the law. Is there actually a law in place now? I asked if I could dress down and was told no. lol. Emergency powers are in force and the police (for example) in Scotland have already told some that if they're caught, they'll receive a criminal record. These powers make it illicit to contravene them hence the power to fine if the police feel there's a case to be had. They're flat out at the mo' and won't have the resources to police this effectively but common sense and the right thing I reckon to do in the circumstances is follow the advice and stay at home. The more that contravene this, the greater the risk of the peak resulting in lost lives due to stretching the NHS too far and I wouldn't personally want anyone's life lost on my conscience. The PM seemed pretty clear...all non essential services to close up shop and employees to work from home or stay home for at least the next 3 weeks.

The police have planning on losing 25% of officers during this and that was without taking the burden of lockdown enforcement into consideration.
The problem with the common sense approach is too many out there simply don't have any. The sooner we see some military presence the better.

I need to see something concrete that actually says it is a crime. I can't find anything conclusive.

If Matt 'The Knobhead' Hancock says it's okay for builders to squash themselves onto the tube with DR's, nurses and other real key workers so that they may go and do non essential work on site then I doubt the Police will have any grounds to arrest anyone. And now for a bit of a reality check. I'm a bricklayer working on site everyday and though I don't fall into this category myself I work with plenty of guys who have young families and live from paycheck to paycheck, our site actually closed this morning and so after this Friday (we are still paid weekly) they will have no more money coming because being self employed we fall though the cracks a bit and will recieve possibly if they are lucky SSP at less than £100 per week. I would imagine that feeding and taking care of a young family somewhat overides any feelings they may have over possibly stretching the NHS.

Furious that many people regarded this weekend as a bank holiday and flocked to parks and beaches in their crowds with not a care in the world Maybe they won't get a severe dose, but they will get it at some point as most of us will and the whole thing is to prevent the NHS being overloaded too quickly.
I bet Boris will go into full 'cross parent' mode this evening and we'll go into full lockdown - but many people had it coming sadly 100% agree with you, Dave it is just selfish, moronic behaviour. If you're referring to me Paul, what moronic behaviour have I committed. In the last week we went to Morrisons at 6.30am to do the weekly shop. We went to Iceland on Monday [walked, we are only 7 mins away] and this morning Wednesday, we will be going to Morrison again. They don't open till 8.00am now so will be leaving here at 7.45am. My comments previously did not say I was wondering around willie nilly, infecting people with the virus. I said I should have the right to be able to go out, in fact I do until they change the law. I can assure you my actions since this virus became news have been what I would call impeccable, making sure I am getting plenty of vitamin C and keeping warm, like I said only been out twice in the last week, less than 1 hour away from home. How many can say that?

I have only been out once since Friday the 13th. To get some petrol, and a new gas bottle so that we can cook. I wore disposable gloves when handling the fuel pump etc. as this is a good place to pick up the virus.

It's set to be the warmest day of the year so far, wonder how many morons disregard the govt advice and head for the beaches again . Answers on a postcard or a sealed down envelope please, that's if you can fit them all on.

Speaking as a late boomer (got the speakers to go with it), is it the self interested millenial snowflake generation defying instructions to keep apart, accepting that there are also older ignorant people who don't seem to give a stuff? I know young-uns mostly think they're immortal, but still...

I know young-uns mostly think they're immortal, but still... No Dave, there was a Boomer on the radio waxing about how she doesn't care whether everyone gets it as "we all have to die" The host was dumb struck. Theres a London facebook somewhere but she went into great detail about how she'd been to a friends house over the weekend etc There really is a problem in this country and that problem is selfishness. Only when the Sh#t hits the fan, do we see the real person, and we have that en mass at the minute. There is also a complete lack of intelligence. One woman in Facebook yesterday, in a local area group, asking why it's ok for some people to go to work, while others have to stay at home, and what's the difference between going to work and visiting friends and family. She didnt, and more importantly couldn't grasp the fact that the workers HAVE to work because they are saving lives and that going out for leisure activities would double the rate of infection (rough guess) and so it was simply to slow down the risk of infection by not doing anything you dont need to. I'm quite aware that generally, people in my area are quite.....basic....... Now, I'm convinced it's actually a larger % of the population that can't count if they ran out of fingers

Unfortunately I have been thinking the 'intelligence' of the general populous has been falling decade by decade. We were having a discussion of being glad to be in the generation we are in, but of course that isn't anything that you can choose.
I'm not really sure where all the common sense has gone, it appears to be in very short supply. There are however an awful lot of compassionate and selfless people out there, let's applaud them in this time of crisis.

Just had a thought, some people have behaved badly according to reports. I put this down to mis-information, but now that Boris has spoken on tv, I thought he came across very well although he did look tied, everyone now knows the score.

I dont know about misinformation, Dave. It was very clear to me that we should be avoiding other people etc, until we were finally locked down. I just think people genuinely dont realise or understand the gravity of what's happening, whichbis understandable, as it hasnt happened like this before. Personally, I think Boris is doing a fine job. Hes been thrust into Brexit talks and a Global Pandemic. Two events nonother prime minister has had to face and I think hes done a good job of leading. Others will disagree but as we dont discuss politics or religion here, i dont expect there to be a massive BoJo debate..hint hint

Thank god for our neighbours who are topping us up with essentials on a Friday. As I can’t risk going out for risk of introducing something into the house..we are stuffed without generous help

I feel for your situation natara and for all those connected with the building trade. A Cabinet spokesman, a Mr Jenrick today told the media that any businesses, and that includes including builders, that cannot guarantee that labourers stay more than 2m apart should be shutting down. It's now unequivocal and will be enacted into law later this week or next week under the Coronavirus Bill. As common sense is not prevailing, the government's hand is having to be forced. I feel for all those affected financially. I'm self employed myself and have seen a halving or more of my income streams since this started, and yes, I have a family to support and bills to pay too but it's a small price to pay if we are to save lives. I am now cancelling all visits to RFC for any purpose until this is over unless the person travelling is dropping off or picking something up in the name of work which may be permissible under current guidelines. Everything can be done by essential services such as courier for these activities anyway. The government aren't suggestion we all close all of our businesses down, but that we avoid contact with others and unnecessary travel.

If PaulD has called my behaviour moronic I expect a full apology, never mind about passions running high. It does not give him the right to judge other members, when he has no idea of their behaviour when the emerge from behind a keyboard. I never said I was behaving badly only I should have a right to think for myself, if that's moronic behaviour I'm a nun. As for Engine's posts they make me laugh as well, and I ignore his transgressions.

I have a long time acquaintance now on Facebook as he lives in New Zealand convinced there's an ulterior motive for all of this (he's in his eighties!). He keeps posting flu figures and deaths and it does appear that annual deaths due to influenza is in the millions worldwide (I believe). What I didn't understand until recently is how INFECTIOUS this disease is, far worse than the flu and I suspect the main reason for this lockdown is to limit the NHS being overwhelmed if we all catch it at once and have complications - we'll all be exposed to it eventually. I suppose 'we' need to have it constantly explained simply and effectively, although I have being patronised - a very fine line methinks.
Have we changed over the decades? Maybe the current human civilisation is more self entitled than it was a hundred years ago, but we'd need to study properly how society has changed in the interim.

Please tell me why I should not be allowed to go to the pub, supermarket, or even travel the world. If individuals feel they have dependants that may be vulnerable it is up to them to take care, let the rest of us carry on living our lives.

Trouble is economic pressures on people are forcing them to go to work. There are so many more self employed now than 10-15 years ago due to the change in the economy that a huge proportion of people do not have an automatic safety net. Even the net that is there is very minimal due to benefit cuts over the last 10+ years.
The gvt needs to sort out the self employed issue quickly.
