Seems to be a deliberate ploy to expose people to Coronavirus over here, reading between the lines of what the PM said.

The national health service employs very powerful computer modeling for these sort of outbreaks, the trick is to close events, workplaces and schools at the optimum time, not before or after. All of this was done for h1n1 and plugged in with the new numbers.

The trouble with closing schools before you need to is that the majority of nurses in the uk are also mums. Send those kids home and you lose your nursing staff.

Personally id isolate the weak, elderly, infirm and very young and let the rest get ill, then it's all over and done with in a couple of weeks.

Whilst the end result for all of us (health wise) should, with luck and a following wind, be no more irritating than a common cold, what the controls are for is to prevent the NHS being swamped when they only have a total of 50,000 CDU beds available nationwide. Do the maths: 80% infection rate of which 5 to 10% may require ventilators and which 1% will become critically ill. There are not near enough beds hence the staged controls to prevent a peak and to prevent needless loss of lives.

Like others, my own investments (pension provision in my case) has been really hard hit in the past few weeks, losing many tens of £1000's. It may or may not recover, but health is more important, so being responsible now for the sake of the elderly and those most at risk means taking unilateral steps which may well be more than the govt suggests.

Personally, I think that the UK govt have acted too late to prevent peaking of the illness early. I can't get my head round why they've left it 5 weeks after they knew it was already in the country to start applying any meaningful controls. Look after your parents folks and your family members or mates you know to be at risk (those with diabetes for example). Cageyh is right. It will likely bankrupt way more than it kills.

It's very primal behaviour by the masses to be honest, but we did a double shop, just to give the companies a chance to get their Sh#t together.

I may buy a few bags of rice, pasta etc, just to have a few rations if things get outta hand but i cant foresee that being even remotely likely.

To the government less oldies means less drain on resources(NHS especially) and a lovely lump of unpaid state pension fund to bail us out afterwards, win win as far as they are concerned.

Little wonder they were draggng their feet to begin with.

The mortality rate in wuhan china from 46k cases is 3%, among those with no underlying health conditions in the ROW it is 0.9%.

More people doe of Aids each day that have does from cov19 in total...

It is down to sheer luck. I have trying to get a QROPS sorted for the last two years, and payment was made recently.
If all goes well, I will be enjoying retirement with a very nice system, even though my hearing may not be as good as it is now.
