I am nearly 64, considerer myself reasonably healthy, parents have passed, and I don't have any children. Please tell me why I should not be allowed to go to the pub, supermarket, or even travel the world. If individuals feel they have dependants that may be vulnerable it is up to them to take care, let the rest of us carry on living our lives. Well that’s a particularly ignorant and selfish way of viewing things, but I guess you’re alright Jack!

I know its Twitter, but if someone finds a link elsewhere to this, share it.
Maybe it'll make more sense as to why everything is being shut down and movement being restricted.

Tonight is the first night I’ve stayed in for years! Every Saturday I go out. Me the wife and friends. Just round the local or up the main high street. Been a bit of a shock to the system I must admit but it needs to be done. I’ve just spent the last 4 hours having a right ole chuckle with the Wife playing old fashioned board games and having a few drinks at home. Yeah she kicked my ass but it was funny.

Im not on twatter or divorceface or anything so I can't put it out there but I absolutely promise you all that I live overlooking the link A road between Yorkshire and Lancashire and its normally full of supermarket lorries. In the last two days I've counted NONE ! So something is sadly wrong. Someone is feeding us bullshit. I was in two supermarkets today and there's F#ck all going onto the shelves. All this " There's plenty to go round" is absolute bollocks !

I do believe in freedom of thought though, and that people are not as thick as the government seem to think. Life has to go on.

Gentlemen,
Please remember, we arent here to attack people or hand out awards, engine.
Dave's opinion may not be a popular one, but it's one that has been echoed by others elsewhere and hes also entitled to feel however he wants to.
Probably more helpful to offer an insight as to why people have to stay in, hence why I shared the Video Link.

As pointed out it is possible to have the virus and not have - or even ever develop - any symptoms but you are still contagious. One of the reasons it has spread so effectively.
Also virus can survive for some time on hard surfaces - door handles for example. Transfer some saliva onto your hand by coughing or sneezing into it, transfer it to the door handle when you open the door, next person along opens the door, picks it up on their hand, then touches eyes, nose or mouth and in it goes.
I'm surprised it is still possible to fly out anywhere. Maybe if you go today there might be some country still allowing passenger flights in, everywhere seems to be closing borders or have already closed them.

Somewhere hot and very dry with virtually no population would be best place to go. Like the Sahara desert. But you could still catch it there and then you're stuck in some foreign country with no decent healthcare available.

They have already said that almost everyone will get it so I think their approach of flattening the peak is probably the way. As you said, better to have access to healthcare at a time like this.

His opinion is his own and he’s welcome to it in a democratic society, but it doesn’t make it any less ignorant or selfish. This type of opinion and behaviour has the potential to kill more people that wouldn’t have otherwise died. Look at the swarm of idiots that have headed to the beach or wherever yesterday and ignored the Governments advise to social distance. It really does feel like we are living in the time of moron at the moment.

Keeping it positive, I was so touched by this text I got last night. Just neighbours from a few doors down. Little things like this go someway to restoring my faith in human nature, thanks for posting this Steve. My daughter is doing the same with all her elderly/infirm neighbours. Let's have some more positive vibes, lord knows we're gonna need them in the coming months. My mum is sadly not with us anymore but my heart goes out to all the mothers who won't get to see their kids today. #caremongering

Herd behaviour, crowd psychology. We are all susceptible and it isn't a new thing, it's recorded as happening in ancient Rome where the behaviour of 'the mob' had to be taken into account and dealt with.
I don't think going to the beach is necessarily that bad. You're out in the open air so much harder for the virus to transfer and if you go to any beach you will see that people naturally camp some distance from each other, I think there is a study somewhere on that. Not the same as going to a concert or sporting event where the crowd is tightly packed.

Because you may have the virus already, and even though it may not affect you, you could be spreading it to everybody you meet. If I had the virus I would be home in bed. Please read my post again, it's up to those who feel they might be vulnerable to take extra precautions. Anyway just booked my flight out of here, hoping Boris doesn't shut down the airports or flights get cancelled. Good luck with keeping 1m away from everybody else. If the flight goes ahead, I recommend the use of disposable gloves and a mask for the duration of the flight.

Just been to Sainsbury, there's some gaps in the shelves but still got everything I needed except fresh milk. And it isn't unusual for them to be out of fresh milk on a Sunday anyway.
The main distribution warehouse is literally just up the road so that no doubt helps.

I have just come back from Tesco. They opened the doors early for all NHS staff, 9am When we got there the queue was horrendous.
We got into Tesco and you wouldn't believe how many people were shopping in there. I'm talking thousands.
They opened the doors early but the till wouldn't open until 10am. They were queuing up every Isle and so tightly packed in around the checkouts Me and the wife put back the meat and frozen food and got out of there.
Yes there trying to do good to help all the NHS staff but myself I feel it was just making matters a lot lot worse.

I dont disagree that the opinion displayed, is one that has an element of "sort sightedness" but once again, we arent here to make people feel bad about their opinion. As stated before, it's perfectly ok to disagree and to point out where the shortcomings of someones opinion lie, but it's not ok to attack the individual. If Dave doesn't give a Sh#t about potentially saving lives, that's up to him.

The sh*t hasn't really hit the fan up here in the north east yet, and until the local braindead morons see someone drop dead right next to them they are going to carry on as normal, sod the advice!
The few elderly friends I've talked to are just as scared of starving to death, which judging by the state of the supermarkets is a real possibility, as they are this pandemic.

We are almost exactly on the same trajectory as Italy at the same stage and 2 weeks behind them. so look where they are now and be very worried that people aren't following guidlines.

I can see the government now introducing food rationing because estimates of the value of hoarded food and groceries now tops over £1Billion which is quite staggering. This to me is as much a danger to society as the virus itself. These selfish people, these greedy individuals who are currently stockpiling don't get it. If they behaved rationally and selflessly, things would tick along much as they are now, with few shortages. As it stands, more people are set to suffer because of this abhorrent behaviour of many. Because of this, the government may well introduce food rationing and in doing so increase the cost and burden of administering basic necessities of life. I'm ashamed to be British at times like this.
The death rate as a percentage of reported cases is now close to 5% in the UK, so higher than some other countries, and yes, our infection and death rate is so far mirroring that of Italy with little chance now that we'll fare any better. People need to start taking this more seriously and also need to start thinking of their neighbours and stop the hoarding.
Personally I see no change happening and within 2 weeks predict rationing will be brought in and extra control measures imposed on us all, with curfews being imposed.

Well people's behaviour won't change until they see friends and relatives in hospital. Then the selfish people will be the first to scream about the level of infection. 🙄

If they behaved rationally and selflessly, That has never, ever happened in the entirety of human history. It's one of the reasons why socialism and communism don't work. There won't be any problem as long as the supply chain for essentials isn't disrupted. There's only so much people can stockpile and only so much they can afford to stockpile. And in the supermarket this morning they were limiting to 3 of any one item, or 2 for stuff that is really short like bog roll.

The few elderly friends I've talked to are just as scared of starving to death, which judging by the state of the supermarkets is a real possibility, as they are this pandemic. It will change in a week or so. People will start to notice that their neighbor's are struggling. We have just fetched some bits for an elderly lady and I've asked for a shopping list. Said it'll take a few days and probably wont get everything all at once, but it will come. The one thing the older generation have is the ability to make bread etc, so I have to find live yeast from somewhere lol
