I have studied the lencoheaven guide and it looks straight forward. Its not that complicated but you know what springy things can do and there are lots of them in and around the motor!

Huzzah! You've done it!! That's it you've now mastered the Lenco!!! I think motor noise issues with Lencos must be their number one issue. Having taken the motor apart and gained a good understanding of how it works has been very fruitful.
I am not quite there yet as there are a few other bits to be completed before I am up and running.

Went up to the loft and dug out my GL75 this afternoon . I was going to send the motor down to James to service , but thankfully it seems OK ( once I remembered to loosen the transit screws ) Attachments:

Yes - I remember one of the motors on a noisy GL75 I had to do the same thing. I thought the LH site had a section on doing this but obviously not.
Well done and slowly getting there.

To be fair to LH there is a guide to centering the motor coils but I was not given this advice when consulting the site. I was just told to service the motor.
Having discovered what a big deal this is in regards to the motor noise I am surprised there is not more mentioned about it on LH.
I am enjoying the project but did not really want to rip the motor apart!

It is a lovely finish, I could look at that all day. To think I was once offered a roomful of GL75s for nothing back in 1993 and I turned the bloke down. Who knew?

Great job - brings back memories of the few motors that I have stripped and put back again. You are right with how quiet they can be once fully sorted. Looking forward to the next instalment. Do you have the gizmo for lining up the idler wheel ?

Post by gninnam on Apr 29, 2020 20:28:40 GMT
It did as it makes sure that the wheel is at the correct angle when turning the platter so no drag - lessens the motor noise getting through so well worth it to be honest. I think the details of how to make it are on Lenco Heaven. I did have a spare one but gave it to someone. If your desperate I can pop it in the post for you then once finished with you can send it back??

How do you adjust the angle of the wheel ?

By bending the idler wheel arm - only needs very small amounts and I believe it is what Lenco did during QA

Did aligning the idler wheel make a difference to the speed or the sound?

That's interesting . Thanks . Seems a bit barbaric but I suppose it's the only was to adjust the angle of the idler wheel .

Thanks for the answer regarding lessening noise and drag. If you could possibly let be borrow your jig that would be much appreciated. I can PM you my details.

I will be interested in your findings with this jig James I have seen the template on Lenco Heaven but I did not know what the benefits were until Andy mentioned it in his post. My GL75 is now totally silent so I may not have to tweak the idler that much!?

You still need to check your idler arm bearings. You could have it perfectly aligned and it will wobble around. The platter will also spin imperfectly.
