You still need to check your idler arm bearings. You could have it perfectly aligned and it will wobble around. The platter will also spin imperfectly. Not much play on the idler arm bearings. Is it best to oil or grease them, I popped a drop of oil on them anyway.
When I did start up the old girl with the platter on it took some time for it to move as though the idler was finding it difficult to get traction. Once it was spinning it seemed OK. I have cleaned underside of platter but I wonder if idler wheel needs a bit of cleaning with sandpaper!

I would go gently with trying to clean / sandpaper the idler wheel . Could be the spring too James .

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Don't sand paper the idler wheel.
It's not getting enough traction because the idler wheel isn't coming into contact with the motor spindle properly. You can use either lithium grease, which I think you already have, or simple 3-1 oil, or sewing machine oil works ok. Check to make sure your idler arm spring isn't knackered. It might not be adequately retaining the idler wheel in place. That's why I got rid of the dammed thing! ;-)

No expert. Is the idler mechanism moving freely? If it is, then the spring tensioning might be suspect. Does the idler tyre feel hard? You could remove it and boil it in water - gas mark 5 for 25 mins - that's a joke! But you can boil it in water, maybe for about 10 minutes. After that wash it with soap and water and them meths and tissue/toilet roll to get it really clean. You can get tyres on eBay for about £4, I think. Just search for Goldring Lenco Tyre.

I will get to the bottom of it with some experimentation!

Clean the idler wheel with Meths. Please don't boil the wheel you'll distort it and magnify your problem. Try rubbing a little olive oil into the idler wheel and then try. You could use a rubber band to replace the idler wheel spring, but remember the blutack mod I told you about. That's why I used it in the first place it stops you from having to experiment (not that I'm one to talk)!!!

Only problem with that tyre is it is very different to the one I have on now.
Bloody eck that is an expensive spring! I suppose its a NOS Lenco spring!

Have you tried modding the Idler arm holding bracket? You might be able to pull it a few mm's forward which would them push the idler wheel onto the motor spindle. It's been a while so I don't know if you simply undo the retaining screw for the bracket and then pull it forward then re-tighten the screw. If this isn't an option why not drill another hole in the bracket several mm's into the bracket away from the original and then re-attach this should allow you to mod the idler wheel distance for FREE! Hope this makes sense, I'm a little tired.

It's basically just a rubber O ring. I really doubt boiling it is going to deform it.

Your probably correct, however, I'm one of those blokes who doesn't like to take a chance.

Not like living on the edge, then!?!
Personally, I too would just give it a good clean with meths. The last time I tried to boil something rubber and old - can't remember what, now - but it didn't really soften much. And a new tyre isn't going to cost a fortune.
Not as senile as I thought I was. It was the rubber brake on a Technics SP 15 that I tried to soften. Boiling did soften it, but not as much as I was hoping for.

Not quite sure why. Here's another that quotes the models it will fit, which includes the 75. ebay.co.uk/itm/383326502246 £6 You can get springs for about £2. You can get collections of 200 for £7. Just search for expansion spring. Here's one: ebay.co.uk/itm/252419199050

wow,its come up beautifully jim.great job. It is in very nice condition and looks fabulous in the flesh. I am restoring it sympathetically and keeping it as original as possible as there may not be too many around in a few years that have not been modified ( Torn apart!)

My Cabin Fever Lenco project is still my main preoccupation at the moment but I am waiting for a number of parts to continue the project which have now all been ordered form all parts of the world so who knows when they will arrive!
I have the following on their way...
RCA phono cable New rubber feet M8 thread and inserts. New Acrylic lid - bespoke made to measure. Rubber boot for end of bearing shaft. AT95ex cartridge and Jico M55e stylus.
