Yes, interesting thought. I'm getting kind of similar results from my battery powered MyST R2R DAC. Very solid sort of sound. Makes many other DACs sound a bit vague, thin and flat. Interesting you and Steve getting good results from battery powered DACs. I have thought myself that the reason my Macbook Pro sounds so good is that I use it and its internal DAC only on battery power. The results are surprisingly good considering its just a laptop DAC.

So the system keeps on surprising as it increases in sound quality bringing about astonishing levels of playback quality from vinyl. It is truly jaw dropping good now as a series of minor tweaks have resulted in a huge uplift in sound quality. The holographic almost supernatural voice of Agnes Obel recorded on Myopia now has vast space around it in every direction. Mind blowing cavernous sound but totally under control. If you ever wanted to hear true HIGH RESOLUTION this system does it. I only wish I could get someone here to demonstrate what I am listening too. But alas "Plague Island" as we are now known because of the total incompetence in handling the virus has pushed us further towards the abyss and further away from other human contact in our own homes. Thanks to Boris we are going to have Christmas Dinner in the garage! I'm not sure it's totally BoJo's fault mate, but i am not getting into politics! Yes, i can only imagine the joy you are having with those HECO's. I have been left rather frustrated by the lack of pairs available to me so have widened the net. some ASW Genius 410 are now at the forefront of my investigations. seem's your system is finally bringing the rewards you sought. Any comments on the PEcanPI or has that been languishing in a box lol Stay patient. Lockdowns and such are a temporary thing. we'll have a get together soon

Lovin the aesthetic Jim. What are the platforms you are using under the turntable and pre ? Having vastly improved my Harbeths through sorbothane pads and Gaia 3’s I’m now considering isolation under my SP10. However I need a larger platform/ shelf to do it.

Having vastly improved my Harbeths through sorbothane pads and Gaia 3’s I’m now considering isolation under my SP10. However I need a larger platform/ shelf to do it. The pre is sitting on a roller shelf which is made from compact laminate and specially selected cups and bearings. I think the bearings are made from some sort of exotic material?
The turntable is sitting on a piece of the same compact laminate which is also sitting on four Vibropods which I think are made from sorbothane. The turntable feet themselves are also vibration attunated with ball bearings and foam pads.
BUT all of this is nothing compared to the effect the furniture has had on the SQ. This is a very solid piece of furniture and has huge mass now it has 150 records stored within it. Its effectiveness in reducing vibration getting through to the turntable was massive and transformed my system.
And it was far cheaper than the roller shelf!

I remember in the early 80’s buying a very similar (but longer) side board from a charity shop for a fiver. It was our first house (in Chester), and I remember struggling to get it back to the house on a wheelbarrow. Then when we moved to York in the late 80’s I remember the sound it made as I threw it into the skip at a local dump. Worth a fortune now

Worth a fortune now It is a Danish 1960s Sideboard and has been beautifully restored almost as good as new. They are not cheap now and most go for £1000+. Obviously they were intended for HIFI / record storage as LPs fit perfectly inside.

Really interesting... especially when you factor in the cost differential between the various dacs you mentioned! Looking forward to reading about the results through the main system

If it performs well on the main system I will be upgrading the Toslink cable and ordering another LPSU on a slow boat from China!

All connected and running the Justboom DAC on the main rig. Settling down for an evening of digital entertainment.
I will let you know my thoughts tomorrow once I have had a good listen but early indications are very positive indeed.

jimboNice write-up there. These very small form DACs/DACHats provide unrivalled price v performance ratio. The PecanPi delivering a performance that left a Topping D90 quaking in it's boots (IMO) for 25% of the price. Just boom have been around for a long time and theirs was one of the first DAC hats i heard and one that made me start to think this small form technology may be the way to go for the "non-committal" digital listener. I am very pleased you have found something that really delivers for less than half a tank of diesel. Cant wait to hear it! I suspect a LPSU may be hooked up to it soon?
