I've got an HK930 already. But it has the black vinyl sleeve not the wooden one so not as pretty. A mate used to have one of the Pioneer monsters, weighed 20 kilos. Can't recall the model now. Sound quality was okay, not world-beating. It was a talking point though. Yes these old receivers will only take you so far.......but they maybe far enough for some!

Did not want hinges as I just lift it off when in use. They are available if I wanted them.
For the VPI I will just but a massive Dustcover that will drop over the whole turntable.

That Lenco really came up a treat. The wood, the lustre on the metal surfaces, very tasty.

Very nice looking GL75 you have now - the lid is a bargain at £30 (did it include P&P) I bought a sheet of acrylic and made my own 'bender' and I reckon It cost a lot more than £30. I think the next lid will be ordered from them.

Although I am trying to keep the Lenco refubishment as original as possible I am constantly thinking of ways to improve it as there are a few niggles which may get sorted out such as the tonearm. If I cant get it operationally perfect I am tempted to junk it and swap in something better like the Ortofon AS 212. To be honest I should stop visiting Lencoheaven as it puts all sorts of devilish ideas in my head. My only issue with replacing the tonearm would be why stop there! Why don't I go the whole hog and rip it apart and build a monster PTP with a really top end tonearm!? I really need to get a grip and remember what my original Cabin fever plan was in Lockdown ( a simple refurbish project) and keep away from LH!!!

Drag the VPI out, and remind yourself you still have that....

Drag the VPI out, and remind yourself you still have that.... I have enough equipment piled up here already, anymore and Helen may blow a whistle and show me the red card!

Leave it alone man Fix the arm , put a better stylus on the M55e then sit back and enjoy the music . These decks are slowly but surely disappearing because they're so easy to modify and good unmolested examples are getting harder to find

Leave it alone....just listen to it!

Jim, remember our chat. Keep your Lenco stock and then build another PTP project, using your "stock" deck as a reference against your PTP.

You chaps are absolutely right. I will leave it alone, keep off Lencoheaven and find something else to mull over!

I'm just glad that their isn't an equivalent forum for Garrard decks! Maybe you could start one? No, I think I'd probably get strung up if I started optimising and modding Garrards, it would also be a very expensive hobby! 301's are selling for £3-4k nowadays. My garage find 301 was £175!

You never said what the drive problem was. Spring or tyre? Or both?

You never said what the drive problem was. Spring or tyre? Or both? It was neither, the cable on the Lenco motor was pulling it slightly out of alignment so the idler wheel was not square on start up and made a noise on the platter.
All sorted now.

I am edging closer... just waiting for V blocks for my Lenco tonearm so I can set it up better and then I will pop them both in. I bought a new At95ex which is on at the moment but I am actually thinking of buying another headshell from Thakker that will let me top mount both of your cartridges!
