Wow that veneering and rebating is superb. Much respect for your talent and patience. I loved the industrial looking strength of the veneer press as well. thanks alan, im really enjoying it to be honest, from about 94-2005 i had a cabinet making and antique restoring business, just me and my dad. i loved every minute of it and doing the plinth is reminding me of that time of my life. happy days.

Excellent Job Jamie. I am impressed at your attention to detail and the overall finish.
Really nice to have the skills to do that kind of work and accomplish such a fine result which will be unique.

Great job Jamie and I would fully support the idea of a separate arm pillar. One way of doing this without too much fuss is to use a fixing bar which slots into a hole in the plinth base but within a damped slider block which can be used to fix the position of the arm. The other, as Simon suggests is to cut a deep groove between the line of where the arm mount will be and the plinth, but then plug that gap with absorption material like sorbathane sheet or strips. Personally I would probably have left more material within the base if there had been no real need to remove it but it may have become rather a heavy beast to move then!

thanks paul and scotty, so this weekends work has been to tidy up the underside,i choose satin black and gave it 4 coats.when the plinth is finished you will only see the side edges so i concentrated on them more.
its now ready for my secret sauce! the reason why all that material was removed from underneath, the plug has also been made. i start tomorrow
