I nearly told you it'd be a piece of piss. Looks a great job/finish, well done. Now we can look forward to the review on whether or not it has made an improvement. Chop chop.

What stops it dropping under it's own weight does it have a maquett ? A maquette (French word for scale model, sometimes referred to by the Italian names plastico or modello) is a scale model or rough draft of an unfinished sculpture. An equivalent term is bozzetto, from the Italian word for "sketch".
i had to look that one up lol
im relying on it sticking well to the plinth, plus the fact that i cut the newplast into small long round sections and pressed each section onto the last section, hence why it took so bloody long to do,my theory is ive got rid of any air so perhaps a vacumm is caused (could well be bollocks). time will tell!

My only concern is what happens if we have a roasting summer? I'd hate for it to soften and droop. Is that a possibility?

Is that a possibility? lol im not too worried about roaasting summers, more chance of it being struck by lightening ! seriously though its sat for a week holding itself up together with the weight of the plug so im not concerned with drooping.uncharted territory,as far as im aware no ones done this before so as i said time will tell.

I love the invention to thnk outside the box and according to the manufacturer, it retains it shape but never sets, so i suspect you will be fine. Looking forward to seeing the TT in it! Bet you've missed the Vinyl?

If the wood was rough enough I imagine itll hold fast.
My moneys on it being a bit bassy.

thats interesting, what makes you think that? the plinth materials were choosen because of their good damping properties, newplast being nearly as good as panzerholz.to my mind they shouldn't add anything to the music but im no expert. 1 of the reasons i used newplast over resin is because if the plinth sounds awful i can always remove it or perhaps tune it by removing a little at a time.

I think itll be bassy because of the high mass and the low speed of sound propagation and the lack of a physical sink to a higher mass.

Maybe try it on two soft feet and one spike. Is it on a rack or bolted shelf, I forget?

K, I'd go one spike and two squishy, give it a defined path.

with time on my hands i knocked this up on the lathe today, its a self centering pin which screws into the bearing carrier where the thrust pad screws in,it locates the bearing housing dead in the center. the thread is 12mm x 0.5!. tomorrows project is a new bearing housing in panzerholz. the things you do when your board lol.

well i think i jinxed it,all was going well until i started to bore the hole, the glue gave way and bugger! back to the drawing board i think, delrin is the next material to try. ive gained some experiance doing it though, one thing ive learnt is this sort of thing is not a 5 minute job and cant be rushed.

Could you have made the wooden bit out of one piece? If not can you pin the two bits? As you work metal I am making an assumption you may have welding rods to use to make pins and then glue???
