I've heard a Caimen SEG and it hurt If it was the Beresford DAC that Alan had, then it was my old Caiman II, and not the SEG. There is no guarantee that the good measuring ESS Pro DAC at £1500 won’t “hurt” in the same system.

The Caiman II was ok but not in the same league as the SEG.

Not a fan of Sabre chips here, they or 99% of the equipment I have listened to have been clinical and detail orientated, the exception was one of those expensive Moon dac's that was somewhat opposite
They main stay here is quite easy to fathom do you like PERSONALLY, straightforward and simple.
Whatever other folks feel about a particular piece of equipment is their opinion, so whether a closed minded small in stature ego infested petty dictator type person or larger than life box swapper with an inferiority complex it is only really important to that person making the decision.
Any thoughts on other dac chip sets at all?

My PecanPi has a Texas Instrument (BurrBrown) Dac Chip Its definitely the best DAC I have heard and I'm starting to feel there isn't much to be gained from making any changes to it.

No. Mr Coherent was buying 5 apparently, to see how well they take modifications. It might be worth having a nose on TAS.
As for my Super SEG. Stan received the unit on Thursday. He got in touch with me yesterday to say it is finished, and is sending it back to me.
A really quick turn around.

The D70 is a Sabre DAC, the D90 uses a chip from another manufacturer, which is supposed to be smoother.

Well the Super SEG is back. Just plugged it in, and letting it settle down a bit before passing judgement.

If it's any consolation, I passed judgment on this Digi bollocks a long long time ago. My findings are somewhat controversial, so please pm me if interested. My set up at the time was extremely expensive and apparently the finest available.... Ta....!!! Perpetual Technology DAC Perpetual Technology DCE Modright PSU Audionote transport Etc.....

Cost is not everything. I have carefully put my system together, choosing bits that I think would work well together, and soldered up the bits that go in between them to get the best I can out of it.
I quite enjoy the convenience of Tidal Masters, and the opportunity to discover new music. Even more so now, as the DAC seems to be absolutely spot on with CD at the moment.

Price is no barometer of Performance In fact, ablotbof times it's been completely off kilter

Just added a Ricable DH1 to my set up, as it looks like a reasonable spec cable. It was not too expensive from Amazon, and it seems to be doing the job nicely. No 1’s or 0s have fallen out yet.
It seems to be better than what was there before.

I was using a cheap Canare LV-61s, and with the DH1, the sound seems to be fuller. But as always, a switch back to the original cable is required to double check I am not imagining things.
