Today I have had a further play with system 2 as hadn't yet heard the 104s with the Technics CDP, Cambridge amps and 401/R200/OC5 or P77 Mg. Thought it might be a good idea as this will be my Wam Show system. Well all I can say is some visitors are in for a shock if they read the kit list in the program and then think Ohh a vintage rig in room 219 that should sound interesting if nothing special. Started my listening today with the Technics SL-PG440A, HOLY F**K!! That is a seriously good sound, it had me questioning why I'd spunked so much money on the main rig. Moving to the 401 and P77 Mg I'm think Hmm very nice, waaaay better than I expected, whats it gonna sound like with the OC5, phenomenal is the answer. Am I really listening to a 60 yr old tt with 50 yr old arm and 35 - 40 yr old cart into 35 yr old amps (owned from new) into 45 yr old speakers, joined together with 40 yr old wires, and to top it all it's putting a massive gormless grin on my face.
One element of the setup I wasn't very impressed with that led me to further playing around, was the direct out from the Wiim Pro using its internal DAC, YUK!!! This got me thinking on how to resolve things and I then realised the DacMagic Plus had optical & coax out. Well I just happen to have a Beresford Caimen SEG at the side of my chair that I use as a headphone amp for my CCA & DT770s which I'm not currently using. A, quick sift through my cable box produced a 1m coax, and a spare pair of RCAs so swapped the analogue outs on the DacMagic Plus to the Cambridge pre, ran the coax from the DM+ to the Beresford which I then fed to the Puresound A30. Yep that's much better, the Wiim Pro > DM+ > C50/A50 > 104s really hits the spot and then some, as does the Beresford > Puresound > 104s or 3010s.

First thing this morning I went for a ride today to the east coast - weather held off this morning so a good ride - about 3 hours in the saddle on total with a break for breakfast: Breakfast was a cup of tea and a Cornish pasty Then this afternoon sorted out a new armboard for the AT1010 on the SP10 and moved the SME V on to the Orbe Just enjoying some tunes now

Bought off Mikeb as the price was good and I wanted to try one. Very impressed with it so far - just needs a few more tweaks and should be bang on

Yes - just the minor stuff with the vtf/vta, azimuth etc - pretty close but just needs a few tweaks - already sounding nice. The SME sounds bloody good but this seems to just sound, different, cleaner is the best way to describe it!

Yep! Precise / accurate dial in critical in this game otherwise any evaluation is flawed.

Tried to get a doctors appointment, 40 minute on hold then they cut me off, tried again and gave up after another 20 minutes.
I'll probably wake up dead tomorrow 😂

Today I've been thoroughly enjoying listening to my vintage system 2 through the 104ab. Its shockingly good considering that besides the Wiim Pro & CA DacMagic Plus, the youngest component is from 94 (cdp), amps ICs & SCs bought in 87, and the Mantra + cart, speakers are from 77. I think people who visit me in 219 at the Wam show will be in for a nice surprise if they've read the kit list in the program, and think "Okay, vintage system nowt special but could be an interesting listen for 5 minutes".

My nhs GP would never have tested for that !!

As many of you will know, for the last couple of months I have been questioning my heavy investment in vinyl replay and it's minimal deployment. Something which led me to sell my Koetsu, sticking my Bardo & 12" Enterprise + BB3 up for sale, and using a loaned Acoustic Signature Manfred ii + Jolida JD9 phono. The Manfred and JD9 proved to be a beguiling combination along with a Cadenza Blue, as did the Manfreds arm and Cadenza on my 401. So much so that I've had 6 weeks of angst trying to sort out what to do and how to move forward. Today I came to a decision on my analogue future, atleast in the medium term. The Manfred has been boxed up ready to return to its owner though not his JD9 as I've bought this for 2 reasons. 1. The BB3 is with another potential buyer, if it sells then I still have a very good PS for the main rig. 2. If the BB3 doesn't sell then it will go back in the main rig and the JD9 will be used to feed the Puresound in system 2/2a. TURNTABLE(S) I have pulled my eBay listing and the Bardo is now back on its shelf (atleast for the medium term) fitted with the Cadenza Blue, and very nice it is sounding through the JD9. My 401/R200 is back in system 2, with the Manticore Mantra going on temporary loan to a friend whilst his SP10 is fettled by Angus. When it returns I will store it for use at a future Wam show (with my Cambridge amps and Arcam Two Plus speakers) as it owes me next to nothing. Once this years show is over I will commission Paul Knipe (knipster on the Wam) of Solid Sounds www.solid-sounds.co.uk/ to build me a very special and unique plinth for the 401 and mount a boxed ex-dem, bronze finish Jelco 750D on it. This will then reside with system 2, and means that if/when I decide to sell the Bardo I will still have a rather special turntable for the main rig and the Mantra for system 2.

Just returned from a week away in France. Went with some friends who decided to drive over on the Newhaven - Dieppe route and christ on a bike there was a lot of driving to do. From Cornwall up to Newhaven was far enough, but over 7 hours down to Angouleme left us feeling utterly exhausted from driving overnight. The return leg was no better yesterday and left Angouleme at 8.00am in the morning and finally getting home at 4.30am this morning. Slept about 3 hours then wide awake so feeling rather Donald Ducked right now.
Got some great photos to show you all once I have prised them out of the phone.

One highlight of the week was visiting Rocheforcaud Castle. Stunning architecture and fascinating history. Went down into the tunnels under the castle and my poor legs were buggered climbing the hundreds of steps to get out.

Today, still feeling lke a dog's disc in a whisk part IV, missed out of some stonking lectures this week on EMC & board stack up @ Redbull racing and Siemans. Have been insanely busy in the last couple of months and really in need of a serious break. In the mean time hope everyone is safe and well
