On Monday, noticed that the radiator on my sons car (which I use) was leaking badly. Ordered a replacement radiator that night and it arrived this morning so after work I fitted the new one and all is good now (took about an hour in total) State of the old one:

The Walrus, too posh for me, I'm more of a Carvery or Indian man myself.
Congratulations both, hope you enjoy the evening, don't spend a fortune and still come out hungry.

Dave.. oh god.. no. An anniversary dinner has nothing to do with food. It’s part of the dark arts. It’s not what you do, but the gesture you make. Once past 35 years of marriage you achieve a zen master level of understanding.

Plumbed in the Mutec and music server in place of the cd transport, then wrestled with the server-player software for several hours to finally get something within spitting distance of the CD transport sound and something I might actually listen to for more than a day or two.

brucew268 We can't tell the difference between cd and streamed music, not only that we couldn't hear any difference between the same bit files on Tidal and Qobuz, how strange is that?

hilarious day trying to book a GP appointment . so the surgery has a new fangled internet system bit like 111 and asks you all these questions . i was very impressed , so far so good . Then amazingly a Dr respponded in 2 hours giving an appointment for tommorow . only thing is i cant make it . Ah the new fangled internet system cant cope with rebooking appointments only cancelling them :
So we try and ring , 30th in the queue so give up try again , surgery closed for lunch try again and leave a message to ring
I leave the phone with the mrs as i am up a scaffold painting , they ring back but insist on getting my permission. so then my dear pensioner wife starts to climb the scaffold to get my permission :eek::eek: , i can just see it now , wife breaks leg while trying to give phone to hubby to make GP appointment
When i finally get to speak with them they cant book more than a day ahead so you have to ring at 8.30 am tommorow :
GIVE ME GRACE !!! no wonder men give up and dont go to the GP !!

Similar at my surgery, phone appointments 8 - 8:30 appointment line then blocked and those waiting outside allowed in to book a slot until 9am. After 9am its then a case of being grilled by the reception gestapo, (phone or in person) if they don't consider it an emergency then no chance of seeing anyone, and you have to start all over again the next day.

They fob you off to the next day because they can't give you an appointment for a particular day or date because to meet govt stats they get extra credit for giving you an appointment 'on the day'
That's why they tell you to phone back tomorrow, if you get an appointment then that gets a tick in the good stats box.
Been an issue for patients since it was brought in by the Blair administration, he was challenged about it on Question time and was horrified that's how surgeries were doing it, he promised to look into it.
And here we still are.

Why can't these old timers give it up. My two favourite bands Yes and Jethro Tull have kept going, they're both caricatures of themselves now. Genesis, another one of my favs came back, Phil Collins was even in a bloody wheelchair!!! Having said all that, hope you enjoy the Robert Plant concert.

Do understand the thoughts about certain performers as they age not being able to perform as they should (Paul McCartney anyone ?) Having seen Robert Plant for the first time live about 18 months ago I have to say he is not trying to perform as he did in his youth and in my view he sounded the best I have heard offering greater control and very varied content and no Led Zep or his solo material . So for him at least I would say give him a try the band he uses were superb and given his age his voice is in great nick . Age does not always mean the end of a career I was lucky enough to see the the original Buena Vista Social club live twice and the youngest of them was n his 70,s then .

Don’t think the barbed comments apply to Robert Plant and the band he is touring with. Added to which, he ain’t doing stadium stuff (which he could)..it’s all small theatres. As below

stevew I don't think my comment was 'barbed', I would consider barbed to mean nasty, and I can't see any nastiness in my post. I would consider my post more with a hint of sadness, and for me I would like to remember my favs in their prime or near to. Robert Plant is 75 yrs old in two days, 10yrs past retirement age, but if you have no problem, like I said enjoy the concert.

Sorry Dave.. quite right. I don’t mean nasty. What I meant was that your reflection on other artists trying to maintain the performances of their youth is of no relevance to what Robert Plant does. He declined to reform Led Zep and has continued to plough his own artistic furrow. Have you listened to the YouTube video I posted earlier. The man may be in his 70’s , but musically in his prime.

And I might add the same has to be said of Leonard Cohen. Best work in his 80’s.

I shudder at the thought. I’m sat here aching in parts that shouldn’t ache. Two weeks of painting our hall and landings. Stripping out bits of it if 20 year old Laura Ashley wall paper that had bubbled. Replaced with lining. Then I cocked up and had to to a chunk of it twice. 17.5 litres of bloody expensive trendy chalky paint. No.. no more. Can’t do it.

Nice work stevew, I've had to do a bit of painting and I'm knackered with it. Two coats of white silk emulsion over the previous sky blue and there is still a slight tint coming through. What's up with bloody paint nowadays.

Nice work stevew, I've had to do a bit of painting and I'm knackered with it. Two coats of white silk emulsion over the previous sky blue and there is still a slight tint coming through. What's up with bloody paint nowadays. That is so so true Dave I reckon paint is just made to a price point, so that you pay for what you get. I was lucky in that only a little bit of the hall needed re papering However the majority that was ok still had a diamond pattern on it. Not embossed, but still showed through after a couple of coats of normal Dulux paint. Then a mate of mine recommended Craig and Rose paint. It’s not as expensive as Farrow and Ball, but at £42 for a 2.5 litre tin and bleeding cheap either. One roller coat hid the diamonds and two coats looked amazing. So it’s really hurt having to buy 7 tins of the stuff, but the good news was that B&Q are doing a 3 for 2 deal on all paint right now. The idea for painting is to help make selling this house easier. The next one will have small enough rooms to get the professionals in. I’ve had enough.
