Ah, I should have known you'd spot the difference between these stands and those of the "they'll do a job" category. Yes, I have a metal working expert who could do this for me, and them I could put some feet on. I may look into that if the speakers are looking to become permanent. Ive seen and heard speakers on Partington dreadnoughts and i would be more likely to grab a pair if I couldnt get something similar to these made Yeah the feet are very special in the way they use a viscous damping system to turn vibrations into heat before dissipating away. There’s a reason they are known as one of the best in the business . They really do work well I reckon it would be pretty cheap for your pal to weld a few tubes onto a top and bottom plate of your desired size. It’s also dirt cheap to have stuff powder coated too. Add some used/ex dem feet and you’d be about half the price of retail stands I reckon . I’d seriously consider it if you choose to go that way. Can't find any ex demo feet

Yup, that's £800 for 8..... Starting to make me wonder if it's worth spending that kind of money on stands for the Quadrals, or whether to save a bit and put the money into other speakers...

Are they *much* better than the Gaia? Impossible to tell. One were on a 30kg pair of speakers that were reacting with the room, the other are on stands that are not reacting. What I will do is loan some other stands and see what happens.

There's nothing special about expensive stands, it's all foo. You could put those little speakers on a bookshelf at the same height, they still won't excite the room nodes or the floor, they are just not large enough and don't have the bass energy. Buy any stands that are the right height, fill them with sealed bags of dry sand. It will be fine. You won't need feet at a hundred quid a pop either.

Good to see you back in the game Oli . No retirement then I have retired, Brian. Im Not going to continue to "chase the sonic dragon" anymore. I am very satisfied with my selection of audio components and once I am convinced over the best speaker route and added a R2R DAC, that will be me done.... seriously this time. I have told the wife that my focus will then shift to paying off the mortgage early and trying to further improve our quality of life. I've had 5 years of playing with HiFi...time to put back into the house for a bit. Very wise mate . I stopped buying expensive hifi gear when I got married and bought a house . That's when I started making my own cables to optimise the equipment I already owned .

I wouldn't let Tony plug his fancy pants amp in yesterday as I didn't want to know if I was missing anything 😂

The Track stands are a complete package, the feet are part of solution. The designer Mike Butler is always open to discussing his methodology and he is a rather fine aerospace engineer. As for the most heavy and inert stands are the best, sorry does not always apply, you need to look at the the speaker design, what you are actually trying to achieve with said design and which method of isolation/decoupling you are going to apply for said application. About 10 years ago I undertook a project to produce the a speaker stand based on floating hydraulic rams it promised a great deal of possibilities but after 18 months a lot of R&D the projected price would have been just to cost prohibitive so the working pair reside in my son's systems as its a great centre piece for parties
Also I can name you at least half a dozen speakers where the manufacturers stands cannot be beaten for pure SQ in which case you will need to upgrade the interface between the stand and the floor.
As far as spikes go for any equipment support there are banned from this establishment, even had this discussion with Focal at their factory when the told a small group of UK dealers, 'We make the best the speakers in the world, its up to you to make them good!'
Think of how a spike actually works, you have a point or round ball no bigger than 2mm the vibrational energy travels down through the speaker cabinet, spikes which are anchored through the carpet into the concrete or hard wood floor.
Just use a basic accelerometer app on your phone to 'view' how much or that energy is reflected back up into the cabinet its quite interesting time smearing anyone?
Iso acoustics make some dedicated speaker platforms which work well, there is even a piece at the bottom of this page on how spikes are phish as well, but then I stopped using spikes in the studio 20 years ago.
We do not sell Iso Acoustics but they are illustrating a point.
I will 120% reiterate that a quality stand will improve any stand mount speaker.
You can use another speaker stand and improve that with various other manufacturer's decoupling products that will help no problem at all

Nice sound obviously digital! Very difficult to hear absolute on a youtube video but maybe a little thin, nice sweet treble but electostic tweeters are great for that. Did you have the sub switched in?

Agree with Mr C about spikes. There's no situation where spikes are the optimal solution.
Just a daft idea someone had years ago and everyone just went along with it.

Funny I was discussing spikes with Oliver the other day and I found my Hecos sounded better when they were not spiked to the floorboards but just elevated off the carpet.

Sounds just like the old one. The limiting factors being you have recorded this on a phone, you are using youtube etc. The main thing is that you are happier now than you have been recently, and that is all that counts.

On my PC speakers, you can certainly hear the sub, but as I said before, I find these things kind of pointless. Are you happy with the sound?

To a degree I am, but there's some Body missing...a bit of that organic matter that I have had with other speakers that's missing. It's mega Impressive in a lot of ways so I'll continue to listen. However I've been looking at speakers this morning....says more about my thoughts I suppose
