Today has seen me be a little creative. I have wanted to use my Full Fat Spotfire cables with my TT for some time but just could not get them into a Din plug so after digging around then internet, i found a Cardas Din to RCA box. Unfortunately at £200 i thought it was a bit excessive and a little OTT price wise so into the garage i went. Armed with an empty moisturiser tub and an old computer mouse, I made my own. Sounds great and works so i will now build a proper one. A Hammond project box should suffice and I'll use some Spotfire between the din and rcas. Should be cool and come in under £60. Happy days. Also swapped out the Mundorf caps in the Bigbottle phono stage for some clarity caps. Far more dynamic and somewhat crisper sound. I love them so they will be staying too. Pics of today's messing about and the current mess lol. Little ChiFi amp doing a great job of making music.

Ha ha, rubber anti vibration rings on valves in a component placed on a speaker.
What is not to love about that?

The vibration rings do work IMO but obviously while its on the speaker its not helping lol I had it on there because i had an issue with hum which i was investigating. Happily bits now sorted thanks to a bit of wire so as soon as the front panel returns from the laser etching company, it'll be back in its correct place.

The new 'Avalon' prototype phonostage by Phonomac will be visiting on Tuesday. I am really looking forward to giving it a listen. Designed to be a reference phonostage in terms of accuracy. A few pics of the square wave. Also with him will be my new 32mm Panzer plinth. I'll stick a few pictures on when it's all set up. It'll be left natural rather than being painted black this time. I'm thinking of a stain and oil finish. Any suggestions?

I'll build an Avalon phonostage when Angus has got the phonostage to the "production" level. I hope to help him get the PCBs designed and requested one for myself. Finish wise on the TT, I'll await suggestions lol

No, Martin. With a square wave like that!!! Haha, just kidding BTW, valves can be as good as SS. It's actually made with components that Angus collected in bulk when they were being discontinued. He's an avid Sansui man and over the years repairing Sansui Amplifiers and modding them, he bought enough stock to fix them forever so they are being incorporated here. The original idea for the Avalon was to incorporate the design principles of the SANSUI x11's (I think that's the one) phonostage as it has remarkably low distortion. However that proved impossible as the parts used for that have been discontinued. He also noticed a few design parts he didn't like so decided to start from scratch. There a mix of new and older High end components and I am reliably informed by one auditionee that I should be excited lol. I don't think there will be mass production on these so it could be quite a rarity to own one.

After having a think about the 686, I felt it needed the logo laser etched onto the front of the case. How else will anyone know what it is! A chat with Tom at Neurochrome yielded a great result as I have been allowed to use his company logo. Awesome. Rob (Blackmass) will oversee this for me after the superb work he did on the BigBottle phonostage faceplate. Now, I am thinking....... What exactly should I have done. I'll upload a pic of the logo to help explain what I am thinking..... Underneath 'Neurochrome' it says: engineering done right. I'm thinking of changing that to: Modulus 686 Amplifier. I will check that's OK with Tom but can't see why it wouldn't be? I'd keep the font and layout exactly the same. Any thoughts?

I'd keep the logo as it is in that banner, no mention of the actual amplifier model.

Please don't take this the wrong way but why do you want/need to change the badges on a piece of kit that isn't yours as it were?

Can you maybe stick up a pic of it again? I’m just trying to envisage what it will look like with the logo on and what size said logo will be.
FWIW I agree with Macca about the wording. You could very easily put the Modulus 686 name on the rear.
