Nice looking, time aligned, quality drivers, they deserve some decent outriggers. Thanks Simon,
outriggers? That's a new word to me in hifi lol
EDIT: Ah! yes I see what they are now. I am not sure they will work on these 880s as they are 6 sided! Id have to upend one and have a look.

Here it is!
I am always astonished by people who write opinions about product they have not lived with. Anyone who knows anything about speaker design , knows by looking at this product that Mike Jewitt put a lot of though into this design. I can tell you I have been involved in speaker design for over twenty years and yes have had favourable reviews in Absolute sound and Stereophile (for what' thats worth). A few points; The first thing you notice is the front baffle has the drivers time aligned. The second thing you notice is the cabinet has no parallel walls and the cabinet material is a ridged inert composite. The crossover used is a 6bd per octave slope on the midrange tweeter combo and higher slopes on the lower drivers. It uses High quality drivers and uses an isolation chamber for the midrange unit. If you've read the most recent design philosophy of our friends at B&W you know all these components aid in re-producing a lifelike pinpoint soundstage with good depth and width. I've not posted on this site and for the most part don't read reviews. I was just alarmed by some of the comments made by people who took the time to post on this site about this product. A few points: If you purchase a pair of these speakers you will need power, plenty of power. This is a given for 8" ported designs. Hi watt, hi current power. *Krells amps work well with this product. But anything that high current and 200watts or more. **Secondly, they need to be off the floor approx six inches. This de-couples the speakers from the floor and also gives the listener closer time alignment with the top two drivers. In any case I bought a pair bought without listening to them. I could tell they designed properly and had had some past experience with M/S product. I can also tell you they sound exactly they way I thought they would. Imaging and soundstage are outstanding. very detailed with low cabinent coloration, excellent midrange and tight extended bass. ***If you can pick up a pair for $1,500 or less you just got a steal......
* FFS...typical lol....The Krell would shake the plaster off the walls with these speakers. ** Erm, how are you de-coupling a 30kg speaker from the floor? *** Ha! I got a steal!

www.revolveraudio.co.uk/about_us.htm Early in 2002 Mike Jewitt (ex Heybrook Hi Fi) and Charles Greenlees (ex JPW Loudspeakers) formed The Acoustic Partnership and in turn bought the sole trading rights to the brand “REVOLVER”.
Mike has a well established reputation as a successful loudspeaker designer, having been previously with Mordaunt Short and Canon Audio before joining Heybrook Hi Fi in 1997. Charles has been with JPW Loudspeakers from the start and was involved with the purchasing and production of their own products and those of the myriad of OEM brands that they produced during the 1990’s.

You know I think I might have a review of your speakers somewhere in an issue of HFW. Or at least from the same range. The resin-rock rings a bell.

I'm betting you won't keep the new speakers for anywhere near as long as the old ones.

I was talking to a very knowledgeable fella yesterday evening who told me that the 880 were produced in limited numbers. There were considerably more 860's and 820's apparently.
So not only Excellent but rare too.
Put some foam in the ports earlier and its reduced the resonance a bit. Also swapped the brass binding post connectors to 1mm solid core copper wire. Instantly better all round. As soon as I have rebuilt my DCB1, I can start to judge these properly. What I can say already is that every track though these has been amazing. I also have an idea for isolating the speakers in a long term way but need to do a lot of research. Could be an absolutely brilliant idea, or it could be Sh#t lol. Also think that the brass binding posts need to be changed to Copper but I need to sort the bass out before I go doing anything else.
This could be my luckiest find of all time.

I don't agree with the idea of isolating speakers. They should be coupled to whatever they are stood on as rigidly as possible.

You made your own luck. Most people would go and buy a pair of 2 way Harbeths and join the mainstream. The thing about your exploits that I like most is that you’ve gone off piste more times than Eddie the Eagle. It’s been a great journey to watch and I how it keeps going.

Harbeth has that ''in-crowed'' vibe which I don't like. Same thing with Naim, Linn etc.

Had some Townshend platforms here a few weeks ago an felt they were pretty effective . OK, I didn't need much in the way of isolation with the Pioneers on the DIY stands but they would definitely be on my radar with the 880s.seems like the ideal solution, but for the ridiculous cost.

Killing myself laughing at that. Yes, I do seem to completely ignore the conventional wisdom at every opportunity but it's made it a really interesting hobby. Nothing beats the feeling of nabbing an absolute bargain either. I think it's safe to bet on me going off piste at every opportunity lol

Exactly, when I saw Walpurgis' quote I was going to ask "have you heard speakers on Townsend platforms/bars?" A couple of guys who's opinions I respect greatly have just invested in Townshend Isolation Platforms & Feet of Silence isolation, and they both report that they worked wonders.
When Angus brought his Townshend's here, OK, I didn't *need* too much isolation as the Acoustilay and the heavy stands were doing a fine job, but I could hear in certain situations that they would be hugely beneficial. Situations I find myself in as of now lol.
Trouble is, at over £700 for the bars and £1800 for the platforms, I am going to have to do a Bigman Special and find a cheaper way of doing the job.
I'm thinking of attaching some Discs of Silence to some DIY Outriggers but even that will be over £400!
