Don't touch the leads! 130V is a closer match to what the operating conditions will be. Mine are on at 145V as it isn't adjustable.
Do you think people will think it's magic getting 165V out of an L.V. power supply?

Oli you could twist Alan's arm and go a couple steps step further a knock up a hard square wave ultra fast rise time pulse (<30ps) with a high capacitance discharge circuit (3-5 amps should be sufficient) voltage would tend to be less relevant as long as you can stick it up em! Those electrons can borrow through those thick dielectrics somewhat better said matron!.
Nice to see DIY'ers making an effort into bringing good practices into their craft.
That solder sucker is nice model, rebadged a few times here in the UK, but it does the job well. A good return on your £14.

Solder suckers what's wrong with a drinking straw and blowing it through... I tried it. I couldn't get the technique lol Spare silicone tube to cut to size. I'm very happy with it. I seem to have a higher rate of "one time" success

Oli Also having the correct melt point temperature is essential, hole size and where its a multi layer board or not all play a big part in easy removal of parts and stubborn solder slugs. Oh buy a couple of spare scrap boards from or use musical fidelity boards (same thing really) and just practice. fortunately I am lucky the boss believes in doing the job the right way so I use one of these beauties at work. Easy time at work

Im pretty good now, and i did buy loads of veroboard and stuffed it full of crap resistors to practice with. Just didnt seem to gel with the standard teflon tipped sucker.

Good Times ahead! A while ago Angus and i were discussing the pain that is trying to find tonearm cable with the right quality. Due to the size limitations of the 5pin din. I mused over how a little adapter could be made and knocked up a 5pin din to reach socket junction box. Angus has now taken this idea on and made this little cracker. It came to my attention that something similar is made by Www.thebetteraudiocompany.comNo firsts here then, but I'm using it now and it sounds fantastic. I'll drop some really nice CMC sockets in when I can, but straight away it sounds great with my spotfire cables in. Thanks Angus!

Well BT1 is in and playing... Its a proper lash up and yet its really slick sounding. Fluid and clean, just how how I like it. Lots of listening to do but early signs are very promising

So are you going to get a proper case for it. If it's that good why not get Ant to knock you one up, giving it a posher feel.
