Retrieved these from an old top loading VHS player. Thought id see how far out of spec they are. Well, they weren't everything was within 10% of the stated value.. Hows about that ay! Only 2 were out of whack, which for a 40 year old machine, is pretty impressive. Bored are we?

I am, as you know in the middle of building my first ever power supply and rather than fork out for new bits, I thought it made sense to rescue these old ones, measure them and use those as it's highly likely I'm gonna blow them up. I'll buy new bits when i know what I'm doing lol

Decided to totally dispense with 2 sets of RCA plugs ....
I soldered my cables directly to the PCB. No messing about lol
To my utter surprise, the result is that the directly soldered connections tonally closer to the Valab RCA plugs (£7per pair) than they do to the Elecaudio plugs (€25per pair)
The Elecaudio have a more floaty feel but the Valabs are punchier and more dynamic sounding.
The Elecaudio are beautifully made plugs but they are going up for sale, or I'll return them, as I wont be putting any back in the phonostage as it pisses over both sets without them in.
Hard wired is the best. By far. So so transparent.
Do RCA sockets sound different?
Hell yes.
Is no socket better than any socket?
Hell yes.

All you need to do now is fit some pass through bulkhead grommets and fit the cables properly. It will make changing phono-stages interesting though.

Ahh I thought.. look they say it’s in a UK warehouse. Worth an extra £10 then as no idea how long from China at the moment You don’t think they tell fibs do you? Oh dear Just to finish off here.. this probably deserves its own thread. However the pre amp has arrived, plumbed in and working fine. Sounds awesome. This was £60 delivered. Quite unbelievable. Even straight out of the box it’s one hell of a surprise. Ok, so I was using an old linn preamp which in comparison was muddy and vague. Mine is called Nobsound which appeals to the sniggering child in me. From what I’ve read it’s a rebranded weiliang. Certainly looks identical. Sounds detailed, airy, and very very clear. Maybe a tad shimmery, but nothing to worry about. Possibly it’s just the comparison with the old pre I’ve just unplugged. Not got a battery in the remote yet. Simple enough to operate with the rotary/push button. Hard not to recommend. By the way.. under the reviews on eBay is jandl100.. Seems Jerry likes it too! Thanks for the heads up Alan

A couple of modifications can raise its performance to stellar! Assuming the supporting kit is also super clean.
I have found the battery contacts in the remote can be a bit fickle, I have bent them a little to give greater pressure on the battery.

I'm a bit stuck for the time being, as part of the rules for 'shielding' Fiona is that I can't leave the house either! Down the line... Just fitted a battery in the remote..seems Ok. Still coming to terms with this. £60. Seriously? Oh...and its got Bluetooth. Just tried it out with my phone. Works a treat. Not that I'll ever use it. I've forgiven them for claiming it was in the UK. The lovable rogues

They were €12.50 each plus €10 postage so that's €60....shall we say.... £42.50 including post? Seems a good deal to me. Let me know what you think

£30 all in would be a better deal.... There's not much off at £42.50 for second hand used (and they're rubbish you say ), need to sharpen your pencil a bit
