Hopefully, the result is as expected and I will let you know what I think when it's done 🙂 cheers, im waiting on a date from angus to visit,id like him to give my tt bearings the once over whilst im doing the plinth and its still in bits. hopefully i can hear the arm as well .
Thats not a bad idea. May be able to make a day of it. I should be going down there some time in February but it's likely to be a week day.

Good news on the smaller diameter PC-OCC cable! Yes, absolutely excited by the prospect of what it can bring. If its anything like the differences we have experienced whilst trying different cables, I will be delighted.

Few bits stacking up on the to do list. New aly back plate for the preamp. I'm going to redo it as I dont like the pcb mount xlr sockets. EIZZ will be providing the new sockets, made from 24kt gold plated copper contacts. I also decided that the Bigbottle needed a new front panel. A 10mm thick piece of acrylic should provide a nice finish. And to go with it, an oversized led push button power switch. Now, just need my hand to work and I can get cracking

Really tempted to change the front panel on my Firebottle Mono blocks. A black panel, preferably in alu, with a discrete logo using the same font would be nicer in my opinion. Any suggestions of where I can get a suitable bit of 10mm brushed anodised with a power button hole?

Any suggestions of where I can get a suitable bit of 10mm brushed anodised with a power button hole? Youd need to get a piece of aluminium from Ebay. Get it drilled, engraved and then get it anodized yourself. You wont get a like for like piece

I was hoping I could find a faceplate from a chassis manufacturer.

It certainly is. I may not have to worry about it though.

Finally got round to buying a sheet metal hole punch. Perfect for XLR sized holes in aluminium

Good man on the hole punch. So much easier.
Scar looks tidy, hope the progress is swift.

Well, it sounds like you have plenty of time to sit around twiddling your thumbs. I went through that when I broke my arm at the shoulder joint and they could not plaster it. I don’t remember it being a lot of fun.

I don’t remember it being a lot of fun. Yep, it's no fun at all The joint is very painfull. 10x worse than the recovery after it was broken. Didn't think it would be as brutal as it is

Looks sore buddy Hope it doesn't take too long to heal up . The scar/cut is numb. One of the benefits of them cutting through the nerves but the tendons and ligaments are murder. They have stiffened, massively, due to the procedure and trying to get them mobile requires some hefty painkillers. I'll start the exercise they gave me today, and start banging in the pills

Yes, getting joints mobile again is a sore one. My right leg was in plaster up to the thigh for about two months after I had ab argument with a Cortina (that dates me!) and lost (badly compounded fracture). Didn't help that it was set wrong the first time & the bones weren't meeting up to mend. Part of the physio involved sitting with my foot in a bucket of water between two electrodes while an electric current was passed through it to re-tone the muscles.

Oh man, that sounds grim I am mentally putting the exercises off as I cant face it yet Such a wimp lol

Latest addition to the digital rig is this Samsung SSD 1TB Tony of Coherent Systems suggested an improvement could be gained from moving from my HHD to SSD. I tried with a 120GB SSD I had knocking about and low and behold, there was a definite amount of solidity now added to the sound. I felt there was genuinely enough of an improvement to go for a decent unit. The Samsung was reasonably priced (£94) on ebay and the specs are pretty decent too. Should he here this week, so I'm looking forward to getting this up and running. Talking of Tony, he also suggested that the RPI and PecanPi may perform better if there was some space between them, rather than screwed together. I have bought a GPIO cable to experiment with and see if there is any improvement. If there is, I may even try and put a bit of shielding between the two and case them up.

I run a 1Tb Samsung 860 Evo SSD on my music PC, which is a passive cooled build and has no moving parts inside, apart from if the PSU gets a bit too hot, and then a fan will kick in.

It should be here tomorrow so I'll be doing some testing between that and the old HDD. The little experiment I did yesterday certainly suggested it was a worthwhile spend

I was told that mechanical noise of a fast spinning HDD was no good. I fitted a 500 Gb Evo 860 as a system drive. Probably totally wasted with my low power CPU, but it sounds pretty good. Only other thing I could do is a linear PSU, but when mine measures so well, I doubt it will bring a worthwhile improvement.

I am pretty much convinced that I'll be getting a D90 in the coming weeks so I'll be rejigging again and possibly adding a Digione or a Tinkerboard to feed it. I'll worry about power supplies then.

Hence me wondering why people spend so much for a Linear PSU.
