I'd think the Townshend speaker stands would more than compensate for the flexy floor. Is there any fix for room modes except to move the speakers a few inches out of their way, at least marginally? Yes, I'm sure the Townshends will help a lot - I know Oli wouldn't be without them. Oli doesn't have much scope for moving the speakers much. Pulling them well fwd and away from side walls would help, but simply isn't feasible in his room. Other options are bass traps (which have helped) and using speakers with active bass control. Another option is to plug the ports on the speakers and use a sub (with tuneable bass at specific frequencies) to fill in and remove energy at the room mode peak. However, this is very difficult to get right (phase and integration) and many speakers can sound dry and (a little) unnatural with the ports bunged. Yeah, I thought that would be the case in his room. Sometimes even as little as 4" change can put one out of the heart of a room mode though. But if he can't, he can't.

"There is nothing wrong with the speakers, or amp." Just keep telling yourself that.... (Waits for Purifi orgasm) That would be a wonderful result, wouldn't it!

There isn't anywhere else for the speakers to move to. The room is the limiting factor, and hopefully next year there will be one of three things happening. Either we will move house, build a dedicated room on the side of the house to replace the garage, or Jason will be building a pair of the Troels Gravesen Mini Vaders for me so I can make the best of the space I have.
I think I have managed to wrestle a very decent level of performance out of a very challenging space, and I am very pleased with what I hear. I have heard systems in bigger rooms than this that don't do for me what this system does, but I have also heard phenomenal SQ in other rooms that make me want to get to that level. Hopefully next year will be the point where I get

Must admit, whilst I obviously don't want Mum gone, I cant wait to move from here, get myself a detached bungalow and setup a proper dedicated listening room. Luckily I have no owner so can do what the hell I want, my vision is a musicroom with accommodation. 🤔😂😂😎

The idea of having a proper space where all of these awesome bits of kit can perform at their best is very appealing.

Oli Fully active stand mounts, Adam's Kii's or Focal's Why? All in one convenience with Kii3s Oli... DAC, pre, power, speakers and DSP. Sell the hifi and take the easy life. Although, i think you'd be bored!

I've a cracking little Dansette. What more could you want? Idler drive, 4 speed, valve amplification, and it is a pretty blue colour. Not enough power to annoy the neighbours.

Maybe a nice headphone amplifier woo audio 2A3 with a Holo May KTE should do the ticket rather well.

Been having a play with this over the last few days while the Aqvox is out on loan: It's a Topping E30 MKII (AKM) with LPSU. It's sounding well balanced and quite engaging. It's not an Aqvox, but it's certainly worth a recommendation to those looking for a first DAC or something under £200.

Yes, that's why I use one - I can only dream of having more than £200 to spend on a DAC lol.

I was just listening to "The Planets" and it made a very good job of it.

Do you remember the first time your mind was blown by HiFi? I do, it was reading a review of a DAC and then seeing the price. I didn't even know what a DAC was at the time as i had only ever used vinyl or CD. I couldn't understand why something that supplied inside a CD player would cost so much on it's own!
You tend to learn quite quickly in this hobby as to what is and isn't good value, and £8995 for a DAC in 2014 seemed to represent very little in terms of value, and served more to demonstrate which of the forum members i was currently conversing with, were more concerned with willy waving than they were actual sound quality. But, as time went on, the review i read, and the DAC it was about, never really left my "wanted list"
Obviously, £8995 would be far better spent pursuing the changes my listening environment desperately require. The visit to Jason's has only reinforced that fact to me, but....when the opportunity arises to tick off a bucket list item, can you REALLY ignore it?
I love HiFi, and there are always things that i am looking for. I have various specific searches saved on Google and Edge, and a few days ago i got a very intriguing notification. "Saved search item match - Reimyo DAP-999EX D/A Converter"
If you don't know what DAC that is, or if you have not heard of it, you can read the same review i did in 2015/16 here :https://positive-feedback.com/Issue71/reimyo_dap999ex.htm
Negotiations have been taking place for a few days with the seller in the USA, and today money exchanged hands. I am a little nervous as it's the purchase i have made via UK Audio Mart, but i have taken every precaution i can...just in case, but i won't relax until it's here, or count any chickens. So for now...fingers crossed.
I am genuinely excited to hear this.

Good luck with your purchase, Oli. I hope it arrives safely. I think I have read one or two reviews of the Reimyo, and they were very good. The proof, as always, is in your listening, though. At the time it came out, I would have been interested in hearing it. The photos look good; let's hope it sounds good, too.

Thanks Mark, It's old technology now, but it was extremely cutting edge at the time due to those monumental 1704 chips. I think read that they are the most expensive multibit chips ever made. Either way, it's been on the list for a while so it's going to be nice to finally get a listen... hopefully.

Reimyo is a brand I have seen mentioned in quite a while, but their products always got good reviews. Will be interesting how you get on Oli.
