The 1970s bath mat? Defo a nod to the 70s. I guess a giant would have one that size. I still love it. It perks me up.

Da Capo in da house! Works and sounds nothing like I expected. Very rich and silky. First impressions are that it’s not going to equal the Sonneteer but it’s a lovely thing. Build is not your typical PT, which is a good thing,

What did you expect it to sound like?
Never heard one but they do seem to be universally rated as a cut above.

Thin, tinkly and annoying, with lightweight and hollow bass I’ve never got on with a single PT product, but this is really sumptuous with proper bass and groove, The last thing I’d expected from PT digital was the heft and boogie I don’t hear in their decks, I’m still getting the measure of it, but it’s always gonna be something I like,

That is cheap for one, they did use to go for a few hundred used.
I suppose now DACs are all about galvanized USB connection and DSD 100 million the market for the old, classic DACs has dried up.

I got it from a recycling centre, seemed like this and a few other bits had come from a deceased house clearance, It has the 22 bit digital filter in, which is apparently a good thing. Can’t see me selling it tbh. Sure, there’s money in flipping it, but it’s something I’d like to keep for now.

I’m really enjoying the DaCapo. It’s definitely lower res than the Sonneteers but I suspect pretty much everything else is. I really dig the weight and velvety smoothness though it’s very satisfying. Probably the most analogue sounding DAC I’ve heard,
If the Sonneteer is white wine, the DaCapo is Guinness. If anyone thinks that sort of thing might suit them, I’d look out for one, Just don’t hang on for me to sell mine cos that is unlikely.

I've asked the question on Tempting Ebay bargains, but should have asked on here really. What motor are you using on your tt, and also it looks like a Tabriz on there, kept that quiet.

Sorry I missed this. I bought a Project motor because it fits the cutout and spins the platter at the right speed, being a peripheral drive. I haven’t been kind to the Tabriz in the past. I’m not sure how I will fare with it tbh. I will need time, but it seems okay. The deck sounds pretty good but I will only know when I get a decent phono stage and fit an MC cartridge. The deck is definitely a keeper though. Might try an OL motor in time but nothing about the sound suggests I need to.

Good read. I send and receive loads of parcels and I’d say they are all wreckers. You need to pack to survive deliberate assault because every company has a monkey or three working for them. Oh, and use Interparcel because they always pay out as long as you have pics of the packing.

I’ve been going through several recordings I haven’t played in ages. I’m happier than I’ve ever been with my system. It sounds utterly delicious and it looks just as wonderful. It plays everything well too, and it doesn’t change in character at different volumes. Other than picking up another Sedley at some point, I’m done.

What can I say? With the addition of the world’s prettiest turntable, I finally feel like “the shoe fits” with this system. I may still pick up the odd bargain and turn a few quid, but they won’t ever make the first team.

As we age our hearing degrades over the years. You have to stop somewhere eventually, and know your place. Pointless having hyper transparent gear with shagged up ears.

I’m still good to 17khz, but I do think my tastes have changed wit age. I can’t be certain, but I don’t think it’s hearing related. Whether it’s age/testosterone related, I don’t know, but I’m a calmer person than I was. This seems to have translated into my listening tastes. I used to need an exhilarating listen and now I seem to have learned to value note decay and timbre over leading edges.
It could just be that the Sonneteer kit what’s won me over to it’s signature sound. It’s softly spoken but over time, it has become compelling.

I’m 51 next month and the lugs are still good to 17.5-18k or so. Not bad. I was always careful about ear protection at work though.

My only real interest in EBay now is bargain hunting. I’m still excited by getting something worth decent money for peanuts.

I’ve been using the TransRotor with a newly acquired Dino. I haven’t even installed an MC cartridge yet, but even with the cheapie AT91 it’s the best deck I’ve owned. It’s a rock solid presentation with serious weight and simply no noise floor: Silences are eerily delectable. Hugely open sound too. So enjoyable I can’t bring myself to fit a better cart. Pointless because I couldn’t increase my happiness right now. I ran a Xerxes and a Mantra through a Dino in this exact same system with this and better carts. There’s simply no comparison. I’ve found my Goldilocks deck to go with my Goldilocks system. Even a Neverending story can have a happy ending. Who would’ve thought It?
