They are a classic design that deserves to have the same recognition as other 70s icons. Better still, to be placed amongst such items and admired and used.

Braun are re-introducing this kind of speaker vibe in an up to date form. Timeless to me anyway and engineered by 'Pure' I think.
I have a pair of original Denton (W20) speakers in the loft (either dark teak or walnut - not sure) and really should be moving them on. Very pleasant sound indeed and totally inoffensive, the early purple plastic tweeter actually quite effective. Open to sensible offers if anyone's interested as it's unlikely I'll ever use them again.

Problem straight away with these that is mega pissing me off. i cannot get the grills off to access the units. Looks like the Gills maybe glued on which is a bastard if they are. The grills are excellent condition as are the cabinets so don't wanna damage them. The grill material is hessian but they are kinda formed so the edges bulge out, they are flexible as if the frames are made of fibre glass.. I might have to sell these on if i cant get them off.

The grilles may be pinned on as my IMF's were. I think the Dentons were the same, but I remember being able to gently remove one and then replace using the original pins and holes so no harm done. Does the back come off?
Seriously mate, your fine-carpentry skills are legendary so surely you can gently prise the grilles off without damage?

The backs are sealed Dave. The grills seem to be very deeply set into the cabinet..

Cut them free with craft knife and then re-glue when you're done?

Send em back. Damaged goods. You will never, ever be happy with them. Surely the makers wouldn't have done shoit like that.

I picked them up. Been reading. Wharfdale were gits for gluing Grills on in the 60's.
On the contrary im happy with them But the Caps on the crossover board are over 50 years old Engine, they want changing & when i took the terminal strip off the back you can see black in the copper wire, that deffo wants changing.. But the cabs & grills are like time warp condition..

Well see to the caps or warrever and as far as the fronts are concerned keep your grubby little finger off them them. That's your problem ain't it ? You can't leave things alone.

How can i see to the caps when i cannot get the Grills off to access the units, you muppett What an utter pisser. You sacrifice the great condition to get them back to spec, or you sacrifice the sound to have them look as they should. Dunno if it’s possible but would the old hairdryer trick sifted the glue and allow the grilles to be worked free? Depends on the glue I guess.

I just cannot get under the grill to pull them off as i said its quite deep if i prize side ways i will damage the edge of the paintwork.
I just do not see the mentality in gluing the grills on, To me that spells rough as a dogs arse under the grills.
The only option i see is new grills with a more modern speaker cloth.
I need to get in them to swap out the caps & Resistor if their is one + the buggy wire that has gone black. Secondly if they sound Sh#t i can replace the units & X Over. Im not too arsed about keeping the originality of these electrical wise but i do need to keep the aesthetics & ofc i need good sound even though they are intended for background music.

It won’t work if the glue is strong but I used to use this method to remove Kan grilles. Shhh.....don’t tell Dave Get a hook shaped dental pick and open the hook out a bit. Thread the point between the weave of the grille near the frame. Now get the hook under the frame and prise it. Hairdryer will help.

They look in lovely condition Andre. Its many years since I heard a pair of Castles, but from what I remember, not overly exciting but nothing to dislike.

Paper cones. High Efficiency & everything was built in house, the units the lot with exception to the very last couple models. Sounded fantastic with Jazz moosik. My fav are the big Cube 'Howard 'Mk.1'.. Those 'Pembroke' were 80's. The predecessor was the 70's 'Kendal'

I reckon Brexit will soon piss on the great prices soon though

Really ? I think it'll make them cheaper. If the UK decides to add import charges to products from the EU then that will raise the purchase price methinks

But like all European businesses that will be even more desperate to sell to the UK they'll have to stand it not us. Plus obviously ebay will reduce the rediculous postage from America and due to the competition that'll make them cheaper still. Ebay will suffer too when , or should I say "IF" we get to leave like we asked to.. It all works in the UK favour. T But of course the media's not allowed to tell you that sort of thing.
